[BNW] Change strategy based on game speed?

I took a stab at the Epic-paced, Deity Gauntlet last month and found it pretty difficult. I'm probably not up to Deity difficulty yet, but was wondering if I was also misplaying Epic-pace by trying to play the same as I do standard pace. Do you make any strategic changes when shifting to Epic or Marathon pace?

In that game, it was culture VC, but going for classic Internet culture takes too many turns. The winning entry for that game utilized a SS strategy combined with domination to kill off civs with high culture. On epic, war is easier due to units being relevant for longer. If Alex is in the game, due to his high diplomatic favor, he'll almost always revive civs. So you can just kill everyone except him, then gift him the first capital, he'll liberate that civ and then you can kill Alex and win culture quickly afterwards due to first civ having very low lifetime culture compared to the rest.
