See the thread I posted about it for details: Great Library destruction. I posted the save game in that thread, so I’ll just repost the link here: Save game, DOS version, not renamed
errr... i had a ghost city a while ago and did delete the game...

the scenario looks very strange - is this industrialization in 800 B.C. ?
great. :)
i will look at it! :goodjob:

Well, the pollution didn’t come from my industries. I guess I somehow triggered the infamous pollution bug. It is a kind of ancient industrialization anyway, as I mysteriously got the technologies needed to industrialize. When this bug was triggered I lost most of my technologies. As a replacement many modern technologies appeared instead, including a few future techs. That didn’t do me much good though. It takes ages to build a bomber in an ancient city;).

  • Shift-56 CHEAT
Shift-56 (sometimes shift 1 to 8) cheat, only available in 474.01.
It was/is the player-test mode for Microprose play testers.
    Refresh the map after pressing Shift 5-6 (or SHiFT + % + ^ + t + t)
(by moving the cursor or pressing t twice)
and you will see the map of the whole world.
You can click on the cities of other players and unfortify their troops
    and sell their city improvements

F7 will show you the development profile of each civilization, showing you all their advances and allowing you to see if they have a vendetta against you.

F8 shows you the powergraph and allows you to see a replay up to that point.

F9 shows numbers representing the attack points, defense points, and 3 of the cities the computer uses to calculate battle, on each continent (along with giving the size of each continent in land squares.

F10 shows a complete world map.

The other function keys sometimes do their normal functions,
but they mess up the display a lot of the time...
  • "SAVEGAME" CHEAT (save a game at critical phase or everytime, load the save game again and try any action again and again until the result satisfies you - for example the hut change to a city, you win the fight against an opponent ...and so on...)
    The Save Game Cheat
Apart from the obvious reasons for saving regularly. It is well known that the computer cheats when it comes to World Wonders. They appear to be awarded randomly to any city the computer likes. If one gets awarded, it is possible to go back to your last save, and the chances are that it won't be awarded again for a while.

Another use for the save option is when you are having problems attacking your enemies because of an uncooperative senate.

    * 1. Have a revolution
    * 2. Attack whoever you wish
    * 3. Save the game
    * 4. Reload it
    * 5. You will be prompted for the type of government you require
  • "WATERBRiDGE" CHEAT (use a ship and up to 2 settlers to build railroad tracks on water -> additional trade/science/happy points on water squares)
    The Settler/Railroad at Sea Cheat
Have a settler in a ship.
    Command the ship to "U"nload.
    Command the settler to "R"oad.
Click on the ship. (I'm assuming you have a mouse)
Click on the settler's icon in the pop-up, "waking up" the settler
Press some key or click elsewhere to clear the pop-up (I press "R")
Go back to the step of commanding the settler to "R"oad.
Once the settler completes a phase (road or rail) the ship underneath
it must move once, to make it willing to start again.
I find it best to use *two* settlers; for each sea square one builds
the road, the other builds the rail; then move the ship. With two ships
and a ship movement cheat (q.v.) there is no theoretical limit to how
much of the ocean can be railroaded in a single turn
    ---Bob O'Bob
  • SETTLER CHEAT (start any 'settler action' over & over again until (for example)
the road is build, the hills change to mines, the jungle change to grassland, the grassland is irrigated in one turn
    )
    The Settler Cheat
Most settler functions take from 2 to 12 turns to accomplish. Any of them can be accomplished in one turn by putting the settler a square, pressing R or M or I or whatever, clicking on the settler to make it blink again (which seemingly aborts the function) and pressing R again. Keep repeating this process until the road or irrigation is finished. If you turn on the End-of-Turn feature, this helps you perform the desired function in one turn. Otherwise you could just keep some nearby piece blinking so that the turn doesn't end before you've milked the cheat for all it's worth. Irrigating swamp takes 10 or 11 turns so this cheat is real handy.
  • TERRAFORM CHEATS
will be detected. don't use TERRAFORM to cheat!!!

the reason(s) to name these cheats is
you just might guess that some contestants/opponents did use -for example- the savegame cheat or settler cheat, but that's all...
so everyone may use these cheats - if you don't, you may lose -
don't come around here complaining: 'i do not cheat, blah blah blah...'
you have to savegame cheat, settler-one-turn cheat , maybe waterbridge...
Period. :king:

no - it's as earth in size.
everything's earthlike here with the difference,
that the other tribes won't kill each other the first 1000/2000 years (or so)
and develop cities and technologies before they fight each other.

your chance is to go

1. as fast as possible to catch some french cities to expand
or
2. wait and develop knowledge and money (not TOO long... :) )

the other AI tribe civs will grow HUGE ... ;)
the only chance here is strategy.

i suggest this as GOTM ( = Game of the Month December 2005 )

1. goal: survive 'til 1750 AD
2. goal: WiN against the other CiVFANATiC members by

a)
score / percentage at 1750 AD ?

b)
# of 'english' inhabitants at 1750 AD ? :D

discuss?

Shift-56
or
shift 1 to 8
or
"%" and "^" and "t" and "t"
cheat,

only available in 474.01

the test mode for Microprose beta game testers.

... you will see the map of the 'whole world'.

You can click on the cities of other players and unfortify their troops and sell their city improvements

F7
will show you the development profile of each civilization, showing you all their advances and allowing you to see if they have a vendetta against you.

Ok, I'll post some.
Both saves are for winciv.

First is a maxgame I did a few years ago IIRC. At chieftan level and just put cities everywhere and well, it's really boring to do but you get a huge score and 200,000,000 citizens or something like that. Here it is
Further a recent emperor level game which in the saved game is at a stage in which I've killed all oponents on my island. I've expanded, build 20 cities and now am destroying the French. All others followed later. I believe it shows my tactic nicely: build knights and sails and start the rampage. ;)
The sav is attached:

first a big 'thankyou' for this.
i can't play it at the moment but i will look when i have the time to install everything again.

i think i will do a linklist here to "MAP" & "SVE" content in other CiV.1 threads here in forum.

i start with the 2 threads that are inspired by this one:

if you remember "MAP" & "SVE"/"SAV" files in other CiV.1 threads please help and post them here...

I have some pretty nice saved games. I'll show them to you guys.

Many of them have a very interesting particularity. Let me explain how it all began. I'm curious to see if there are any others who know of this.

One day, years ago (I was still running a DOS), I mistakenly chose "Earth" from the main menu (I wanted to load the game I was playing at the time). That was before the days of alt+tab, so it wasn't easy to bail out of Civ to restart. I didn't want to reboot, so I decided to just pick a civ and let myself be wiped out. I chose the English, sentried my settlers unit on its tiny island without founding, and started pressing "enter" repeatedly until some foreign ship would kill me. I was at the Emperor level, so I figured out it'd be quick enough. I kept pressing enter.

After a while (no color had been wiped out yet), I got the "Civil War" message you get when a big civ loses its capital and at least one of the seven colors is free... The Indians had just lost Delhi, and the rebels were going to be played by the...Greeks. Pressing enter, I found myself in control of several ex-Indian cities and units, scattered all over the place, with only the areas immediately around them explored. I had a palace in Bombay, all the techs the Indians had, and some money! What had happened: since I had no money, no real units, and no cities, I was considered a nonexistent civ, and therefore I was free to play the role of the "rebels" for another civ!!! I still have a copy of this game only a couple turns after I got control of part of the Indian empire (yes, I'll show you).

For the record, that particular game is a lot of fun to play from that exact point! It's at Emperor, and the Zulus (they, along with the Russians, are always powerful in Earth games) are totally in the process of kicking the Indians' butts when the now-Greek (ex-English) player is given the Indian leftovers. (Being a very good Civ player, it didn't take me time to reverse that! I survived, and ultimately got rid of those annoying Zulus!)

Now, the interesting part: I figured out that this was something I could reproduce. You take a civ, found a city, discover MapMaking, build a settlers and trireme, go far away (towards one of the two poles), stop on some continent on the way (it needs to be far away from your only city), found a city, buy the settlers to destroy that city (at that point, you might want to sell your palace to finance it). If it's far enough from your other city, the settlers will belong to "NONE". Get it aboard the trireme, sail to the closest pole, and abandon the settlers there. Disband everything you have except the settlers, and lose your city. You are now ready : cross your fingers, and press enter repeatedly. (Save the game right before doing that)

If you're lucky, at some point in the game, a "Civil War" will happen. Depending on your color, you'll be chosen to play the rebels. (The higher you are in the color ladder, the more likely you are to be taken ; if you're white, it's going to be you). Of course, to maximise your chances, you'll have taken the Romans or Russians, but it's not mandatory. I've done it with many different colors, just for the sake of it.

If it doesn't happen, reload and try again. After a few tries (it's really quick to try when all you have to do is press enter, so make sure to try at least a few times), if it doesn't work, then the map / starting spots of the civs of that particular game are probably so that the probability of a big civ's capital being taken is small, so you'll want to start over.

The "Civil War" actually happens quite often, more than one would think. I'd say once in every, maybe, 5-10 tries, so 2-3 startovers. (About one game (starting layout) out of 2 or 3 has good potential for a Civil War)

I have many Civil War games... I'd say at least 5 or 6, from memory. They're all saved right after the player got control of the rebels, except for the first English/Greek game (I didn't realize the need to keep that game until after a couple turns). Most of them are an interesting challenge, since you're usually given a crumbling civ with a powerful enemy nearby that's out to get you (the civ that just captured the capital).

They're saved somewhere. I'll find them, and give them to you.

Sorry for that huge post, but I had to explain the context. I hope you find those games interesting!

That. Rocks.

Here's one of them. (Civil0.sav = Civil0.sve , and Civil0.txt = Civil0.map)

Year : 1864 AD

Level : King

Player : Egyptians (formerly Aztecs), a.k.a. Russian rebels

Situation : Moscow just fell to some unknown civ, and your people don't feel like being Russian anymore. You're in charge of a new civ! You've wisely chosen your capital as far-away-in-northern-snow Smolensk, a bustling metropolis inhabited by 30,000 ex-Russians, now proud Egyptians (size 2). You have glorious legions and catapults (well, at least you have Gunpowder too) to oppose to your French and Greek friends' armors and bombers. Will the Russian rebels last?

Notice that your ex-capital Tenochtitlan (in another life) now lives happily in 1864 AD under Greek rule as the world's #3 city. Will you be able to eventually reclaim it?

Have fun!

They're not hopeless. It's hard, but possible. I'm currently doing it - with absolutely no cheating.

Of course, if you want to survive, the mandatory first step is to capture Moscow (it's easy) ASAP. Then... well, depends on what you're going to try.

:)

----

Just curious. I've never used an editor, or any cheat codes, or just anything that would alter the normal course of a Civ game... so, is there any way you can tell that this Egyptians game is "real"? (I know there's at least one proof: if you survive long enough to see the replay, you'll see that the yellow civ ceases to exist, and that the "yellow" cities that were never captured are...white...)

If you want to save yourself some time, I've kept games I call "seeds".

They're games in which the civ/continents layout is such that a civil war is reasonably likely to happen, and in which the "NONE" settlers units is already in place, and everything else is disbanded. I'll give one to you (let me find them first) so you should be able to experience it fairly quickly.

Example of a good "seed": a game with large continents, placed far apart, with single civs on them (so that civs will have time to grow big before getting attacked) and, ideally, with some capitals of "peaceful civs" placed at locations where boats from "aggressive civs" (Russians, Mongols...) from other continents are likely to first land.
