While playing civ you get a lot of information on a lot of diferent ways. Through diplomacy, scouting, spying, messages from city-states, messages from your counsel and other sources. Information that could be shown on an overview of your known world.

For example through :
  • Displaying the area where other civs live (scouts),
  • where they seem like expanding towards (spies),
  • to what area's they've laid claim (often mentioned in diplomacy),
  • discovered barbarian camps (scouts),
  • the location of resources (scouts),
  • which civ is likely to go secure the specific resource (spies),
  • likely areas to get attacked : based on defensive buildings, closeness to a border, strategic control point, closeness to a strategic resource (counsel : danger level or defcon 5-3)
  • likely areas to get attacked : based on intelligence (spies : danger level or defcon 2-1)
  • level of spy protection in cities (spy)
  • suggestion to put a spy into a specif civ city (counsel)
  • and so on ...
