OK, guys. Here we go. I plan to edit this thread with the turn order above changing. Always check this first post.

What I am going to do is ask everyone to subscribe to the thread, so that you know when something is going on. The biggest danger with these types of games is lack of communication, and people not realizing there turn. Questions? Issues? E-mail at lkendter@speakeasy.net

I ask that each player submit a turn summary like the next post below. Make sure to attach your game as a zip file.

4000 BC - Our people decide to build the city of Athens. The Greek Civilaztion is on board. Scientific and Commercial. I love those cheap libraries. Free tech isn't bad either. You have a good chance to jump ahead in the middle ages. Great for tech trader. First time for me with a Mediterranean culture. We wonder what shall happen. We have the potential for a KILLER wonder city.

3950 BC - Our sages begin my standard of Masony. Always like the option for the Pyramids. Our worker begins the first road.

3750 Our first warrior comes out of school. Lets start looking.

3400 We find a tribe. They become a settler and want to join us. This is good news. Though I am starting to get a suspicion this happens with a crap starting location.

3350 - The new settler forms Sparta. This will not be a large city until electricty. However, I can't resist the chance to lock 2 ivory.
HINT - This city builds barracks, and start building Hoplites!

3300 - Oh no, Mr. Bill. We see another city border.

3150 - First contact - Rome. 20 dollars and Bronze working gets us Warrior Code. Tech trading begins.

3050 - We slip to the south of Rome for a tribe, to get a map

Goals - Warrior south of Rome - slid behind Rome before border lock. Warrior north of Sparta - explore. The warrior to the southwest of is sitting on city site #3. Great city, wheat & cows. This is our future worker / settler factory. Concentrate the around Athens.
Don't bother killing Rome yet. You know then will respawn.

ATHENS - SUPER WONDER city. I see the potential for a 20000 culture city. I believe it can be done. I have Babylon at 1470 ad with 8598 culture and 81 points a turn. And I should be first to Universal sufferage. The setup of Athens is almost identical, except no river

Ohwell, have fun. I want city #3 in Tundra (still 2 food, $1, 1 shield) to keep away from Athens. Super culture city is the ultimate challenge!

The Reign of The Lord of Hammers has Begun!

3000 BC- Our Athenians are nearly finished building a settler, a new one is being made. Our nomads are heading towards a tundra spot, very cold. Our workers are finishing a road to Sparta, which has ivory.

2950 BC- Our workers are almost finished with the Spartan road.

2900 BC- We have discovered a new large area of land with our warriors!

2850 BC- Sparta finishes its warriors, they are garrisoned.

2800 BC- The Great road is finished!

2750 BC- A Barbaric tribe gave us their maps, and a great city by the name of Thermopylae was founded!

2710 BC- Our warriors are trapped near Rome, Rome settled a city by the name of Veii. Hmm, what does that mean?

2670 BC- Rome asks us for a loan? I, Great Lord of Greece, steadfastly refused.

2630 BC- Road to the Ivory is Finished, our people are baffled by the wondefulness of it!

2590 BC- Secret talks within our High Commans suggest we are on a small island, and Rome will have to be eliminated quickly.

2550 BC- Nothing, Really!

2510 BC- The Barbarians attack Thermopylae, to no avail.

2470 BC- More barbarians scare our people, but no one was hurt.

2430 BC- Sparta finishes its elite unit, our prized hoplite! Masonry, the building of stone, is researched. Our new goal is Iron, a shiny rock that could be useful. Sparta is training new workers.

2390 BC- Looks like it is a small isle, a very mountainous and chilly isle.

2350 BC- Thermopylae finishes hoplite, and is building setlers.

2270 BC- Sparta builds workers, Rome offered 100 gold for masonry, we accepted.

2230 BC- Great Road to Rome begins

2190- The Lord of the Hammers has aged, and offers his apprentice, Cornmaster, leadership of Greece. He accepts

Suggestion. I don't know how the warrior near Rome got fortified. May have been my bad. Try moving NE, N, NW, N. Slip past Rome. I see a hint of land above Veii. Try and slip a warrior beyond. I have see 1 square spaces that open wide up again. I would hate for use to miss a big block of land. I have before, and it isn't fun. Looks like we need one more warrior to explore north.

How many turns do we each get??? (Standard 10 or 15?)

I'll play it when I get home this afternoon.

We have been doing 20 turns Corn. So far its been working out pretty good.

Not only do I think it is an ice world, it is probably a young world, TOO many mountains!

Finished my turns. Land above Veil and Rome. Have warriors above both. And a settler along the way. Built two more cities, got a tech from a hut and a warrior. Stired up some barbs on the last tur though.

Divided the Roman cities with one city, and building that city above Veil will REALLY hurt their expansion. Have an archer near Roman Cutoff as an escort. Also sacked a few barb villages.

Up next - FlubberDubs

Man the ice area to Southwest of Thermopylae is large. Still don't know about the hill to the south of Ice World. It may get back to me without that area explored. Only tempting spot is that area is the Ivory with double forest. Mostly to keep someone from getting it.

The challenge for FlubberDubs. Slide a settle past Veii before we get border locked.

And to CornMaster. It was well worth slipping past Rome. Contact with the English. That never hurts. Of course, I don't know how hostile England is the our Culture group. I know he hates the Middle east group.

GL to the northern Warrior. First look is always good.

He found the English? Hows the climate up there . Seroiusly, the first couple of eras we are going to have to kick some ass if we are going to survive, I mean, we are surrounded by ice! Hopefully that jungle area above Veii can be settled before anyone else, at least some grasslands and rescourses

-Took out those 4 barbs and the leader guarding a petence of 25 gold.

-Started 3 towns of Delphi, Pharsalos, Knossos.

-Locking them out of the North was of no use, threatened their warrior scum and Settler upon them entering our territory, but they essentially ignored me and walked past. Should have declared war and took them out.

-Ventured to the south; it's all there for us, just a few Barbs! We are in a position to setup another 10+ cities!

-We have 4 more luxuries as soon as we can get workers to build roads to them.

-We need to breed settlers like rabbits in order to win this land grab, we are in a very strong position.

-Currently sitting well in first place

-Gonna want to start some temple to give our people someplace to worship.

-Making a direct shot to Republic

I am new to this game (Civ 3 was my first) so I hope the cities are ok, I attempted to block off the north but they shrugged it off, we can assimulate any cities up there later. Two settlers of ours are wondering south, you decide Nanook whether to settle them SW by the Iron, or South to the Peninsula. Good luck Brave Nanook!

The Romans are definetly inpidiments to our expansion, may I suggest a holy war? They are expanding quite rapidly I see, for a non expansionist civ anyway.... If we cannot win Culturally we can win by domination.

Goals - Rome must die! Connect the Iron.

I didn't know that those were goody huts, kinda never thought anything of them hehe. Ya I am new, but not terrible, I have won my games pretty handily on Regent, playing Monarch now.
I don't have 5 years experience like most here!! But I do have 2 games experience

The great Polar Bear stirs from his slumber and assumes command of his charges. He shall continue their march to greatness.

950 BC: Our warriors made contact with a backward tribe that had knowledge of Mysticism. The foolish barbarians had no idea of the value of this discovery, and I was able to get it from them for a few beads.

925 BC: Some barbarians were discovered standing guard over iron to the south of our great nation. Our warriors quickly dispersed them, and ransacked the town for 25 gold pieces.

825 BC: Sold the Roman heathens contact with the English for 40 gold. Suckers. Sold knowledge of the Wheel to the English for 30 gold. Founder the city of Argos on an iron rich hillside, with yet more iron easily accessible just to the east of it.

800 BC: One of our southernly deployed warrior units dispersed yet more barbians, gaining valuable experience in the process(veteran status). Our scientists completed work on an interesting discovery by the name of Philosophy.

730 BC: Mycanae founded next to a herd of wild horses. There was also a barbarian encampment in the area, which was ransacked to the tune of 25 gold and yet more experience for our warriors(elite). The Romans complained about our troops passing Veil, so we agreed to a temporary Right of Passageagreement.

670 BC: Herakleia founded near a herd of game. One of our warrior units was fortified there to temporarily protect against barbarian invasion.

590 BC: Another barbarian camp sacked for 25 gold in the south. As our settlers were heading to the north to add another city to our glorious empire yet another encampment was discovered and the settlers had to change paths. Will have to send a unit up to clear them out.

510 BC: One of our warrior units stirred up a nest of barbarians to the west. Our elite warriors should be able to dispatch them without any problems, time will tell. Dispatched our northern elite warriors to disperse the barbarians in the northwest, our settler is on hold there waiting for the muscle to arrive.

The great white bear now retires to his long hibernation again, knowing the command of his nation will be in good hands.

After looking at the game I recommend building a city on or next to the southern Iron. Linking it to road (duh. ) but not attacking the Romans. Make them attack us. Their attacks will fail and then one of two things will happen, 1) Our counter attack sends them back to the stone age, or 2) Our culture overwhelms them and we take the cities peacefully.

But we definatally have room to the north and the south!!! Very good shape indede!!!

The above was posted before the last updated game. I looked at this one and noticed the Romans slipped BEHIND our cities!!! And now have a foothold on the Northern most tip of the island. Not good news. I also see that they expanded north toward the English. I hope our warriors retreat wasn't willing!!

I'm impressed with the cities we have, but disapointed with the lack of roads. We have 3 or 4 sources of Iron that should be ours!!! But there is just no road to it!!

But the most startling news of all is that we have NO CULTURE!!! We have no temples!!! With out culture our cities can't grow, and we run the risk of losing cities to Roman Culture!! We must remead this ASAP!!

Hehhehehe I did exactly that in 825 BC. There's a worker creating a road connecting it and the iron next to it to Athens as well. The main road should be done in a couple turns, and the secondary road to the other iron shortly thereafter.

We may not have to kill the Romans after all, I see. There is ample land for us all, although tundra, but is tundra not land? Hmmm, better we have it than someone else. That Jungle looks mighty tasty also
