as discussed in the previous thread, we will try another game. This time we up the difficulty level to Deity
the rest has to be decided by the team:

- Vikings
- continents/pangaea or archipelago - random
- earth - random
- barbs sedentary
- size standard

Roster
ThERat
Shevek
rrau
dl123654 (away from 25/12 - 01/01)
onedreamer (away until 08/01)

Since we do not want to start immediately (maybe this coming x-mas weekend), we can have some discussion on the above mentioned settings. I checked the seafearing Civ's, they are:
Vikings (+mil)
Carthage (+ind)
Netherlands (+agri)
Byzantines (+sci)
English (+com)
Spain (+rel), they are rarely played, might be a good choice
Portugese (+exp)

ok, let's get the discussion going

I indicated in the 1st post about ppl's holidays, maybe we should start only after new year, since a few of you are away, I actually need to work the whole next week as well, no break here for me :(

hey team members. you got no comments on the Civ selection and world settings?
we could set that at least before you all run off to santa and NY parties

I just found the thread today.

If we do an archipelago map, I would like to try vikings for their ability to attack from the boats with their bezerkers.

Another option is the Netherlands with their agri trait - but I would prefer them on a continent and not a 'pelago map.

As fast as science will be, I'm not sure we'll get much benefit from the scientific trait other than one less tech to research/buy. I doubt we'll ever get to sell it.

I don't like warm/wet together - too much jungle. If a wet world, maybe normal or cool instead.

Or, you could roll a start for each civ with random land/world settings and we pick which one looks the best - I did that for one of my games and it worked well.

@ rrau
sounds like a good idea. do you want me to throw starts for those Civs at deity with random setting (I would prefer continents and barbs sedentary and normal size as cornerstones at least)?
I think we should exclude Portugese (overplayed) and English (useless).
What you all think? dl123654, any comments?

I rolled random starts for 6 seafearing Civ's and unless it was complete crap, I took first rolls.
I took random world settings, but set size to standard (no need play huge) and barbs sedentary.

Here is what I got

Now, which Civ shall we choose?

I want to amend the roster, so maybe we can start just before dl123654 goes for a break, so you start then rrau and myself play our turns and when Shevek is back, she can take over

dl123654 (away from 25/12 - 01/01)
ThERat
onedreamer (away until 08/01) - skipped first time round
rrau
Shevek (holidays until 31/12)

Spain's probably the one I like best. Dutch and Portugese the least.

[edit] I think we should wait for everyone before we start.

@rrau
ok, we can wait for everyone before we start. onedreamer is away til 8/01, you want to wait until then or shall we start after new year, when 4/5 are back?
I like Vikings a lot too, and I never really played the strength of those zerks...

Currently in a game with the Byzantine and Carthage.

My picks of other 4:

1: Vikings
2: Spain
3: Dutch
4: Portugese

All look like great starts, any would be fine.

merry christmas to everyone :xmas:
and for those returning after new year, have fun[party]

we start after new year and depending on Shevek's vote, either Vikings or Spain

Shevek pm'ed me
My vote goes to the vikings. And a start on New years day would be splendid

So, there we go, Vikings on the run. And I will start on New Years Day. New roster is:
ThERat
Shevek
rrau
dl123654 (away from 25/12 - 01/01)
onedreamer (away until 08/01)

we will skip onedreamer maybe once, if he is not back, hope he will be joining soon.

and everyone, have a happy new year tonight.

one more question. should I move the settler on tile NE or settle on the spot? I prefer on the spot, we do have 3 mountains there, but beyond are hills. initially we can grow with cow and river, later with hills and mountain this can be a powerhouse. what you all think

In place is fine with me.

ok, this is the first product of 2005! happy new year everyone

1. 4000BC settle on the spot, reveal on more sugar and incense :)
min research on writing, start warrior

2. 3950BC
irrigate cow

4. 3850BC warrior -> curragh

9. 3600BC curragh -> settler

15.3250BC meet Ottoman
we are up alphabet, they know masonry and wheel
curragh spots red border

16. 3200BC settler curragh
give Ottoman alphabet and 2 gpt for masonry
give Rome masonry for BW and 10g

18 3100BC
found Bergen such that the cow can be swapped between towns

2nd curragh ready next turn, Ottoman have 2 techs but we should wait for more contacts
we need to expand north since Ottoman's are taking away the spots and there is plenty of jungle and marshland :(

Sorry for checking in so late. I missed the thread. I only found out today that there may be more than 1 page on the thread list
How embarrasing.
I am just sneaking a quick look at work. I will look at the thread properly tonight from home.
