How do you deal with balancing a seemingly difficult situation.. Civ or GF?

Getting in trouble for being on the comp when on the phone?
Getting in trouble for checking ur emails for replies?

Personally, im very lucky and my girlfriend gives me a fair bit of leeway. When she starts to get bored watchin me prat about on my comp, she gently pokes me in the tummy, and i know if i dont move soon i will get in big trouble ! :mischief:

Certainly a much easier "sign" that females alledgedly give us before getting in a huff.

DISCLAIMER: Being male, i have wrote this from a male perspective.. any females there having to deal with us males dont hesitate to post!

 It had to be you
See but you didn't answer the question!! You've got a girl who gives you the "signal". What happens if you get the "eye" but you weren't looking when you got the "eye". I don't think gender matter if you Civ!

well thats just females for you... tell them you need something more obvious, pass it off that your too stupid to realise the "eye" and they will be happy to lower themselves to your level and incorperate more obvious signs... its much safer to have a better understanding anyway!

i play on the laptop on the couch next to her as she knits. it's a rather nice arangement i think. :)

You didn't put in constantly wrangle over how much time you are actually sending playing the game amd not doing the chores.

From the female perspective....

My husband and I have discussed this at length and from various approaches. Generally, it comes down to my not calling him on a cell phone when he's off fishing for a day and asking him to come home because I'm bored, but he usually gives me a day's notice when he plans to go on a fishing trip. I usually tell him I'm going to start playing Civ and ask if there's anything he needs or wants to discuss before I begin.

Sometimes we have to compromise on our plans. Other times, usually weekends, he's just getting up at 5am to go fishing, and I haven't yet been to bed because I still want "just one more turn".

Ahh the art of compromise. It's the "onemoreturncivitis" that's the killer.

I am married. My wife is almost always understanding. We have made a deal. If I watch "Days of our Lives" with her on a semi-regular basis then I can sit on my butt and play. Also, if I give her a foot rub weekly I get away with more.

If I really need to play for awhile, I will wait till she falls asleep while spooning her and then go play all night long!

The only problem I have is onemoreturncivits. When she gets up to go to work at 6am and Im still at the puter waiting for 1 more turn Im DEAD....

"Dont stay up late" "Come to bed" .........
"Your still up?!"
"you mean you havent been to bed yet?!"

"Well dont plan on coming to bed the rest of the week"

Generally, I play when my wife is asleep. That, or GTA:SA. We have vastly different sleep patterns (I work overnight) so when we're both awake, we're generally doing something together.

And when we're both up together, and I'm on Civ or SA, she'll be doing her internet thing, and we'll take time out to show each other things.

Great thing about Civ, it's turn based. So I can just get up and leave. I don't know how many times I've forgotten to pause SA...:(

heh...my wife absolutely loathes civ. she just doesn't understand.

a favorite phrase of her's is, "oh that f*%$ing game again!?!"

all in all though, i'll shut it down right away when QT is on the agenda.

on a sidenote: i do manage to get homework done for school in between turns! yes! that is the ultimate multi-task!

well... You can not, my friend, you're doomed  ... unless you have girlfriend who likes Civ3 as well, so you're discussion how to conquest those evil Joan's Frenchs ;) ..

 MY wife does that too. She sits there getting madder and madder while I play on oblivious. Onemoreturncivitis is a marriage ending disease
