well, to honour the new Pope i've decided to start yet another SG.

game: civ3c 1.22
level: EMPEROR
CIV: the GERMANS (Benni, as i like to call him affectionately, is german)
RIVALS: Russia, Rome, Celts, China, Japan, Zulu, Egypt
world: standard, continents or pangea (TBD), 70% (TBD)
climate: random (or team pref)
all other: random
barbs: random
wins: 20k city. see variant.

VARIANT:
1) we go for a 20k city win. consolation prize space or un.
2) Domination AND Conquest wins are OFF. yes. i mean OFF.
3) we are in a semi "locked alliance". it means we are friends to all european nation, and CANNOT attack them (unless in self defense). if they are attacked by a non-european civ, we will help them as much as possible. (an MA is preferable but not needed, we can give them gold, techs, attack ourselves).
4) we can keep captured cities, with a proviso. as the new pope in Beneficius the 16th - we cant have more than 16 cities. we can keep the a few turns while we end wars, but not much
5) we really want the religious wonders our (sistines, oracle, ToA, etc) and should be built by us. only SISTINE's is a must, but since were going for a 20k i guess we will try anyway.

additions to variant are welcome to be discussed

all normal SG rules apply

I am so in. 20k is the only win I haven't achieved yet. Plus, I've always liked the Germans. :D

Maybe to make sure we get an even balance of European and non-European civs, we should choose the civs.
 
IroP, welcome aboard.

since we get 7 rivals, ill choose 3 other european and 4 others.

thinking - russia, celts and rome, with egypt, zulu, china and japan thrown in.

it will give us a nice mix of military rivals we dont want to destroy.

I gonna just lurk. RL is getting busy and I need to clean up a few games. Put me down as sub for the IA if you need someone.

1 - FP, idiots are allergic to them
2 - no fresh water
3 - yuk
4 & 5 - like these two, just can't see the BGs
 
I've never learned the 20K city approach, either. PLUS this will be on Emperor, so this should be a good learning experience. Signing up! :D

im leaning toward start 5. move 1 toward coast and off the BG.
 
You are right about five.
 
will start it upwhen i wake up (hopefully in about 12 hours)
(hate doing graveyard shifts)
plan is writing on minimum, 3 warrior scouts, get settler, start on granary.
move towards sea.

anyone care to follow? roster not fixed yet.

might as well use the graveyard for some productive stuff.

All those starting locations lack BG.
To get the early wonders,at least 6 or more BGs are needed.
Once out of Despotism start 4 looks good.
Generate some more maps,you will need more BGs.
 
I'll join in if you'll have me. If so, I vote 4: Im no Catholic, but shouldnt we refrain from building pagan idols, especially giant coastal golden ones and ones paying homage to zeus and the like?

4 makes the MA wonders readily doable as it looks highly productive. And 5 has marsh south.
 
first log. summary - i need sleep.

1- move SE to shore, start mining the BG
2- berlin is built. set for warrior.
sci @ 90 for alpha in 38.

5-berlin warrior > warrior. heads upriver.
6- road mine

9- berlin warrior > warrior. move worker to 2nd BG.
10- mine BG, wait for hut to pop (in our 21, sorry no pic)
11- pop goes the barb. move to promote and earn some cash.
12- folks back home need an iron hand, so i go back :blush: told you i needed sleep. on a happier note, the barbs run away form me :confused:
13- sci to 100.
14- berlin warrior > settler on growth.
15- happy times. meet japan and egypt.

japs have pottery, wheel and cb. we have wc
egypt has mas and cb.
looks like a very nice 2fer, but no amount of juggling will make me any deals :cry:

Settler in 2, growth in 1? :confused: In the far future, when you clear the wetlands, at least one will give you another BG(igor's having visions again; need to splain about tequila and the worm). Time to play Lewis and Clark and follow the rivers. Re the trades or is it tirades, did you drop research to zero before you tried the deals? Or has the AI been adapting to the venerable monk(which would be very scary)? WC + gpt to Cleo for Masonry then that to Japan for wheel and then back to Cleo? D-man would tell you to treat this like a no variant and expand to the dom limit and then sit back... Better whack Toku before Chiv...

OT: there once was a lass from Nantucket, who's **** was too large so she ****** it. Bede's sig has been amusing me, so I thought I'd lower the level... ;)

i did lower it. cleo wanted wc,11g,5gpt for MAS. thats our entire economy.

Toku we can whack. i specifically allowed non euro whacking so we could work off that extra energy.
also, we can get to 16 cities. i dont want this to become another Ninja game, or a waterworld, or come to think about it, most of my games :mischief:

lurker's comment: I'll hang around watching this one. Too many other SGs that I'm sure I'll be up in sooner rather than later.
 
Got it. Play later today.

AK noticed something important (well, he said it backwards, but I knew what he meant ;) ). Settler due in 1, but we're only size 2, growth in 2. Since I'm sure we don't want to waste shields, I'll have to switch it to something. Any suggestions? (haven't looked at the save yet)
