The Hummer Avenger (aka Humvee, Hmmwv).
This is my 2nd rendered unit.

This is a low cost, high speed mobile SAM. It is capable of limited direct ground support as well as it's primary role (AnitAircraft).

I reccommend the updated version be downloaded instead.

I would appreciate knowing what you think of it. If you decide to include suggestions for improvement, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts; but keep the following in mind.

  • This is my second rendered unit, and I am still learning.
  • This is only my fourth unit overall. What takes the great unit creators a few minutes may take me several evenings.
  • And finally, this unit is finished in my opinion. I will take your suggestions under consideration, but unless my mistake was considerable or the change is trivial, look for your suggestions to figure into future units not this one.

This unit includes

Civilopedia Icons
Units32 icon
Animation files
AttackA/B/C, Fidget/fortify, Victory, Defeat, Run
all original sound files (the run sound is an actual Hummer)
Civilopedia.txt content
Pediaicons.txt content
I also included a bonus wall paper, if you want it in larger format (the included one is 640x480, but scales well) PM me.

I want to express my gratitude to Wrymshadow for his tips and guidance. He gave me several easier ways to do what I was doing. The end result is this unit is done several days faster then it would otherwise have been. And more importantly, future units will be easier to fit in to my schedule.

For those who care about such things, this unit is done in standard (Firaxis) scale. With a frame size of 135x120.
I hope you enjoy this unit as much as I enjoyed making it.

That attack preview looks really good (cool smoke effects  ).

Regarding the size: It seems as large as a modern armor (which I think shouldn't be the case) - so I think it might be a bit too big... :hmm:

Also, I cannot see the download link. Where is it :) ?

I just posted in the preview thread, did not realize it was allready done... Looks wonderful and the alternate civilopedia icon is great too.

Would it be much trouble making this (or future units) in different colours schemes?

Doh!, I can't believe I left off the download link.

I based the size off my Jeep unit. I made it around 10% bigger, which is what I figured the size diff should be.
If it is too big to be used with stock units, then I will remake it, absolutely.
The smoke was sort of fun. All it is, is two spheres of variable volume rotating within each other. 1 is white, the other is grey.

What do you have in mind. (ps I love your home town).

Hmm.... this is strange - it seems to have the same problem as the x303-prometheus (?correct name?) starship you did earlier - it's placed in wrong place (atleast when I open it in the civ3flc)... what's going on?

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I made the same mistake twice in a row. I am presently uploading a fixed version.
Civ3flcEdit monkeys with the offset. Flicster (which I used for my first two units) does not.
If you downloaded the file before you saw this post, please DL it again.
I'm sorry for the trouble.

I hope I can come up with a new mistake to make the the next unit. :crazyeye: It's quite annoying (and embaressing) to make the same mistake twice.

Ok I did some belated testing.
The unit is too large. If you are using a larger scale of units (such as Wyrmshadows) it might work. But it is too large as is to be used with Firaxis scale units. I will re-do it in a smaller slightly scale.

But I have a problem. I can not figure out what went wrong with one of the sound files.
I changed the INI file to point to jeeprun.wav instead of my hummer_run.wav (both are now in the zip file).
Both are 125k and 2.9 seconds.
Both are:
bitrate 252
16bit
mono
22khz
PCM
But the jeep sound works correctly and the hummer sound plays endlessly. If one of you has any idea what went wrong with these seemingly identical sound files, I'd appreciate the lesson.
In the meantime, the unit is complete and it works in game. It is just very large. Look for a smaller version in 2-3 days.

Ive been busy for a while, Sorry I missed alot of things. Looks great.no great isnt a good enough word, Magnificent.
Thanks.
I'll be releasing a version closer in size to the standard Firaxis units before the end of the weekend. Maybe sooner, it all depends on how much time I can set aside for this.

There is still an issue with the run sound file, there is a run sound in the zip which works. I just wanted the actual hummer sound to work. And even though they are the same size (2.9seconds 16bit, mono 22Khz) they do not give the same results.

This unit should be considered a 0.9 version at this point. It works, but I want to get a few wrinkles out.

What I had in mind what just the same unit(s) in different colours; grey, brown, olive, camo etc... It may be too much trouble with an unit allready done, but perhaps with the next one?

Do you actually know my hometown? Been here?

I'll think about doing the other colors. The current color is US Marine Corp Olive Drab. I originally did it in a more brown shade of olive, but everyone seemed to prefer this color.
I have been in Skien several times. My grandparents lived for many years in Porsgrunn. I still have family that lives not too far away (maybe an hour at most), an Aunt, uncle and so on.

bettern nothin where as the size does seem a bit big but who cares not like I pay attention to it that much....cuz I just play to have fun and to look at the cool GFX
I intend to leave the larger one available when I finish the smaller one. So those that prefer the larger scale (to fit with Wyrmshadow, Ripptide and other) larger units can use this one.

my tanks (with the exception of my huge Leopard) are not THAT big.

You're right, I was wrong. I remember the leopard being yours. I also downloaded some other larger land units... and since you'd done so many units which were a larger then Firaxis scale (100's of plane and ships)... none of which you take credit for within the zip file... so it is up to my feeble memory to try and keep straight.
Either way, it was not intended as a criticism.
