It's not a new thing. The Vatican has had this ruling for a long time. They just re-affirming their stand on on gay men who want to join the seminary.
Whether seminaries itself would enforce this ruling on would-be seminarians is another issue.
Celibacy is one of the vows they take to join the priesthood. It applies to both gay or straight men. If they aren't sure that they can control their sexual urges and remain celibate, then they should'nt join the priesthood.
You'd think they'd lay off already. They dress Liberace and all of the women in their lives are sisters and mothers. The Vatican sends a lot of mixed messages.
This is perfect. They blame gays for their own problem. Typical excusists. What if they let priests have sex? Then maybe they wouldn't molest kids! Then again, they're a faith-based institution. Écraser l'infâme!
So the essence of this decision appears to be "If you're shagging men, you won't cope with celibacy, so first you need to prove you can. But if you're shagging women, you'll have no problem with celibacy, so come on in." Is this actually an indication by the vatican that homosexual sex is more fun, as they've now decreed it's harder to give up?
