They are only on one island. So I don't think we have to worry, yet. We as yet (atleast in Canada) have not ruined our squarrel food sources.

There are squarrels in BC for sure. THere are even some on many of the islands, I guess they msut have floated over somehow. THey don't really like human developed areas that mcuh though. Except the parks and campgrounds especialy the popular ones the animals will raid your campsite or hop aronud around your site begging.
ANd where I am right now we have some grayish black squarrels, tohugh I've only seen like 7 of them in 16 years.
