Anyone else waiting for a 'stable' patch before they buy the game?

see title.

Just curious. With the release of Harkonnen's patch and the official 1.09, I am seeing a lot of progress... but darned if I am going to be #999,999 of the million unwitting and informal beta-testers....er... 'customers who have already bought the game'.

Yes, this is a bit frivolous, but it *might* interest people if there are more than just a few of us who are sitting on our hands and waiting. ::shrug:: Or not. As I said, just curious.

One comment: if you intend to buy the game and you have faith that the problems will be fixed, why not buy it now and enjoy at least part of the game?

Too frustrating. If I have it sitting here, I will want to play. A lot. :) On the other paw, unstable games irritate me way out of proportion to their actual problems.

There are many, many players who can run the game just fine without Hark's patch and many who were helped by his patch. You must just be a glass half empty guy.

I really wished I waited till it hit the bargin bin to buy it.

Now I have a $50 game that doesn't work.

And YES I have tried EVERYTHING in the forums to get it to work to no avail.

Gals & Guys:
I am in software development so I realize that new code is full of bugs. That is why I will not spend the $$ for a new game until at least the second actual release. As pretty as Civ4 appears to be and as advanced as it appears I'll wait for at least the next release.
Sincerely,
Corvinus

Seriously, you're entitled to do as you wish. More fun for the rest of us that are actually playing.

I don't know about you, but I haven't had too many problems finishing my games. I've never had to restart because of a crash, but really though: I get crashes from other games plenty of times, you might as well just get used to it. It's no use waiting around just because the game is relatively unstable. I mean, if you're not bored of the games you have now, why would you buy another game if you're not going to devote time to it?

Whoever doesn't purchase the game ASAP is not a true Civ fanatic! But that's not the case. But yes, the wise way would be to wait until there's a stable patch out. Just let it be known that many of us are very impatient. :p

I played Civ 3 for a long time before I even realized there was a patch  ..... but this Civ 4, it needs tweaking... it needs it NOW!

....

How about now?

...

[waiting]

I totally agree. Even if Firaxis and 2K fix this game, I do not think I will ever buy from them again. It's clear that the code is buggy, and that they rushed this game to market. I'm surprised that some many members of the fan base of Civilization are putting up with all the problems like it's ok, or acceptable for a company to do this. Either way I hope they release patches to fix the code and stabilize memory loss. I just expected more from this company, and I am greatly disappointed by the game I have bought.

And their temporary consolation seems to be quotes such as "Civ IV Recognized in "Best of 2005" Awards 12.20.05"

- Gotta love that, right? :crazyeye:

All I want is to at least be updated if problems will be addressed by the company, or do I have to spread the word to others about the evils of CIV IV-and one by one protect others from what has occurred to most of us...:king:

Which tells you more about the gaming industry than anything else.

Could not agree with you more.

Says a lot that for support they give you two links:

1. A website which is non-functional 90% of the time, and loads incredibly slowly on the incredibly rare occasions where it actually works.

2. This (3rd party) forum.

Maybe they should have just put a virus on a cd and sent that out as "Civilization IV."

At least then one could say the software they were sold did what it was supposed to do.

Heh, at least the crashes are less of a problem than the unplayable nature of Cru*#$r K!ngs and V!ct0ria

Yep, Paradox have an unrivalled history of releasing bugged games, that are next to unplayable. It is only matched by their excellent customer feedback/support and the speed and determination by which they release patches that address the (many) issues.

Here's hoping that Firaxis will go down that last road as well. :)

I never had any big problems before or after the patch. I think it crashed one time out of about 200 because i was multitasking too much. This new patch took care of a lot of little things that really made it a lot better. just make sure you update direct x, video drivers, windows update (.NET framework), sound drivers. and if you have a crappy 16MB vid card i think you will be in trouble
