Crash Dump to Desktop after 2 turns

System info:

Windowns XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium M 2.13 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X600 SE, DirectX 9.0c

Problem:
Very unstable; sometimes I could play for 30 minutes without crashing and sometimes 2 TURNS (using or not using the advisor tabs).


I have a desktop computer (Intel Pentium 1.03 GB, 512 MB RAM, Windows XP SP2, ATI X850, DirectX 9.0C) and other computers where it runs perfectly with the 1.09 patch.

It's weird. I would like to rant but I know it would not help. Please help.

Issue(s):

I won't even get into the issues I had prior to the v1.09 patch, suffice it to say the game was nearly unplayable.

But even since loading the new patch, my biggest issue is crashing to the desktop without warning about every 30 minutes of game play. It's often brought about by clicking on the mini-map, or moving quickly across the main map. But it's often happened for no apparent reason at all.

I've also had a worker get "stuck". The only thing I could do to move on in the game is disband him.

The wonder movies playback very, very choppy as well. Both audio and video skip throughout playing.

Often times upon startup of the game (loading a saved game), the audio will begin much sooner than the video. I'll still be seeing the loading screen, but I'll hear the game starting...i.e., I'll hear Nimoy announcing a new tech, etc.

I must say I really, really enjoy the game, but having all these bugs even AFTER the official Firaxis patch is really frustrating. I find it very, very hard to believe these issues weren't known about prior to release.

I've now spent about 8 hours installing, uninstalling, trolling for answers on boards, patching, unpatching, patching, uninstalling, installing, whining, throwing the box, and then finally packing the whole thing back up to return it to the store.

Firaxis F****ed this one up. Extra star there on purpose.
