UPDATED (4/19/06):

Added team colors to the unit by adding a FX.nif file.

UPDATED (4/06/06):

I added improved ion engines on the back of the model, with new textures to go with them. Polygon count is a little higher, at 1712.

Also added all of the animations from the origional Jet Fighter unit, so point to that animation when adding the unit to the XML.

OLD POST: Here's the latest in the TIE variations I'm working on: the TIE Defender. One of the more unique looking TIE fighters.

The TIE Defender is possibly the fastest and most powerful of the TIEs developed by the Empire. Unlike most TIEs, the Defender has a shield generator and hyperdrive. It is armed with laser cannons, ion cannons, and missiles (and sometimes a small tractor beam). But because of it's high cost, and a large rear blind spot, it was never produced in large numbers.

Like the other TIEs I made, it's meant to be used as an aircraft. And you can use the vanilla units' animations with it (like the Fighter Jet's kfm file). The polygon count on this one is 1560.

Wow, it looks great. Though I think it might be a bit too blue...
Here check out the wiki entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tie_defender

Yeah, most of the reference pictures I found were grey (though a couple were blue). But both the Fighter and Interceptor I did were grey, so I wanted to make it a different color. :p

I got the color from a toy TIE Bomber I own, but made it slightly darker because the lighter blue still looked grey in-game.

I also took some artistic freedom with how exactly the model looks, just because. :D

Looks awesome. We're definitely gonna use that.

Where are your other TIE models?

You should put them in your signature like alot of other people do. :goodjob:

More great stuff Dual. I can't wait to see your stuff in the SW mod. Now maybe air combat will be cool!

Nice one dual mage. What about making the smallest of tie's, the TIE raptor. Damn i like that small fast thing. Was absolutely superb in a freelancer mod i played. Weak, but good luck hitting me.

Anyway nice work.

I'll add the TIE Raptor to the list of ships I'm doing. The wings are so simple it shouldn't take long to model. :)

Heheh, I recall from the old TIE Fighter game that the TIE Defender was a truly mean fighter. The very definition of super-fighter for a game.

This is just a suggestion Dual, but could you make the team-color area on the TIE/Def larger so that it's easier to see which civilization "owns" each unit.

Great work once again :goodjob: Must be alot of fun being talented at making models.

Nice one. Add a white version too please :).

The unit can be reskinned to white by editing the dds file, so I'll leave that to you are someone else. I'd rather spend my time adding team colors to the rest of my fighters, or making a new model, rather than reskinning my own units. ;)

That can be changed in the dds file as well. Just make the black area in the file's alpha bigger to make the color on the unit bigger.

I only set the black part of the wings as team colorable when I made the nif files though. So any changes to the team color will probably have to be confined there.
