New IGN info on Warlords

AHA! new info on the first page of that article about the new traits!
http://pc.ign.com/articles/707/707377p1.html

quoting the aricle:
First up are the new leader traits. We had thought that there would only be two of these but it turns out that the team has actually included three new traits and ten brand new leaders to take advantage of them. Carthage's Hannibal, for instance, has the old Financial trait but also benefits from the new Charismatic trait. With this new trait Hannibal is able to gain an additional two happiness in each city as well as a 25% reduction in the cost of unit promotions. He'll also gain double production when creating Broadcast Towers late in the game.

England's new leader Churchill also has the Charismatic trait and benefits from the Protective trait as well. Artillery and archer units built by Protective leaders will automatically have the Drill I and Drill II promotions. Any walls or castles built by protective leaders will construct twice as quickly.

We're not sure yet which civs benefit from the final trait but we do know what it is and what it does. Civs that have the Imperialistic trait gain a 100% increase in Great General emergence and a 25% production boost when creating settlers. Some of the new civs don't use these new traits at all. Shaka of the Zulus for instance benefits from the Aggressive and Expansive traits.

Yep. Imperialistic, Charismatic and Protective. I'm thinking the first 2 are the most useful. I mean, I always thought City garrison was more useful for defending cities than drill, though, again, it could be useful with Raging Barbs and such, if you don't get the Great Wall.

Charismatic sounds WAY overpowered, given the importance of happiness at high levels.

I'm really interested in seeing how the Great Wall is implemented.

The new traits sound fun, also.

as for the other new leaders, I think Rameses II will have Charismatic, it fits with his historical power (must have been incredibly popular) and the lower unit promotion fits with his military conquests.

I wonder who will end up having Imperialistic? Ramses II? Its not Hannibal, its not Churchill or Shaka.

Hmm.. That leaves the Viking leader, the Koreon, Mehed II (which would work) Augustus (also would work well) and Stalin.

Hmm. . .

One thing to keep in mind is, older leaders may change traits too. If Shaka becomes Agg/Exp, I wouldn't be surprised to see Genghis Khan switch over to either Agg/Imp or Imp/Exp.

I don't see it mentioned in the IGN article, but I'm pretty sure the Warlord can also be used to create a special building of some sort, like the Academy. Civ4's public presence at E3 was two stations in the T2 booth with a voice narrated gameplay footage video.

I'll try to swing by their booth again and jot down a few notes to make sure everything is covered. If anyone has any questions about Warlords they want to ask of the T2 or Firaxis guys lemme know and I"ll see if I can ask tomorrow.

Actually Protective sounds Very useful (allows Archery units to get Drill 3 for their first upgrade.. Dill four for their first... making them Valid combat units)

Also Vassal States describes as "Peace Treaty on steroids"... suggesting that the Primary benefit is counting thier land for Domination. (I'd imagine you get some foreign policy control too) but they have 'political independence' so probably no benefit to you from what their cities produce.

(maybe a % tax?)

It is about halfway down the article.

"You can sacrifice a Great General to create a new military academy"

Finally they have added the greatwall in the way I said it should have been added like a year ago :king:.

Overall, looks good :)

I think Casear and Augustus would get the Imperilistic trait
Mehamed II may get protective, as Turks are famous for seiges and artlliaries
I am glad the Geat Wall is finanlly included and being mcuh more powerful.

Building the Great Wall will automatically create a massive defensive wall all around your cultural borders. Barbarian units won't be able to cross this border, but when your cultural border expands the walls do not expand with it.

Ugh, this just has me sighing. AGAIN. Don't get me wrong, the great wall is a brilliant addition. It's the fact that once again, cultural expansion will increase your political borders eventually engulfing this wall deep inside your own territory.

Culture affecting political ownership. *CRY* This has been my only rant about culture ever. :P

The new Charismatic Trait makes that old expansive trait SO MUCH WEAKER...

Imagine combining the Charismatic trait with da Representation Civic From the construction of the piramids... Early large cities in High level Games!!!

I'm curious what would happen when you capture GW?
Will it still protect the original owner and also your new captured city?
And will it be obsolete or not?

It will protect anything inside it, ofcourse. It's just a no-go area for barbs.
