Conquests is the ...final expansion pack for Civilization III.

Are you sure emperor? There are rumours in these forums, especially the mod-forum, that Take Two considers to do another release for Civ 3. I would appreciate this very much. :D

Edited: To get no warning for chatting :D:

Big azz, it could be, that Conquests is not the final release for Civ 3.

Pinktilapia has been asked by Take 2 if they can include RFRE in a new release. I would assume that it will just be a re-release of Complete, plus a few fan created mods. I doubt that we'll get any brand new stuff :(.

Hope that my pessimist outlook is proved wrong.

Thanks Padma! :)

These vague reports in my eyes don´t state that it really comes, but they state, that it is at least considered by Take Two. We should do all to encourage them, that it comes.

Please take into account, that there are still interesting features in the hacked civ3-editor (charm-attack and teleport), that we haven´t seen yet in the still existing releases. ;)

Well I cannot see how they can do much more than package everything form Complete and a few mods and scenarios and called it Platinum. After all they did not even finish the last patch.

Remember it was a beta patch and they were working on some tweaks to combat and found it was not going well and that was the last the worked on it. That was a long time ago and how would they pay for any work? They would not even spent the money to do the art work for the city view.

They did not even go forward with the calls for modders to do the work for them for free.

I hope this is true, however, if this expansion comes out, I hope it is more than some additional units and scenarios. The Civ3 C&C community has proven itself just as capable as the artists for Civ3 and it's current expansions. So we don't necessarily need more units and canned scenarios, what we need is a more powerful editor !

Just in case one, or even some of the people who may be involved with the possible furture Civ3 expansion are reading these forums, I want to post some features I feel the current Civ3 editor badly needs.

-Blitz limit: This would be a user adjusted number on how many times a unit with the blitz flag may attack per turn.

-Sea and Land Bombardment options: Right now we have lethal sea and lethal land bombardment. What we need in addition is flags that allow a unit to be able to bombard sea or land or both. A good example for this use is non missile carrying submarines. This would limit their bombardment (which can represent a torpedo attack) to sea units only.

-Unit Type Cap: This would set an all time cap on how many of a certain type of unit may be produced over the period of the game. This is not where you are allowed four of X type units, where you lose one, and you can build another one to bring your total back to four. No, this would be where you can only build x amount of a type of unit total. A good example is right in TCW with the Iowa class battleships. Only four where built, but to keep it historically accurate at four, and to allow them to be upgraded, they have to not only be preplaced, but also be flagged as king units and be unbuildable.

-Possible unit versus unit capabilites: This would be somewhat like Civ4 unit bonuses, but not exactly. I'm thinking where you would want destroyers to be able to attack subs, but heavy cruisers and battleships couldn't. This could possibly be a flag option, or better yet, similar to the stealth attack list. You would choose from a list of what units, the current unit could or couldn't attack.

-Adjustable LOS: This would be handy for recon units.

This what I feel the current Civ3 Editor desperately needs. I would gladly pay more money for an expansion that would contain soley an upgraded, more powerful editor.

I would buy both: New stuff for Civ3 and for Civ4. But the stuff for Civ4 only to reflect how to integrate this to Civ3.

And yes vingrjoe, an improved editor would be very good! An option to forbid the razing of cities in Civ3 should be a modest wish.

Suggestions for the re-release:

Get rid of the AI's annoying habit of wandering over your subs and declaring war.

Alternate resources: much like in Civ 4, where you need either/or to build a unit, like oil or uranium for subs, for example.

More options concerning the terrain, such as being able to make LM terrain passable, or unpassable.

A jamming mission option for planes, where no air units could defend in a 3x3 area, to be used by an EA-6B Prowler, or something to that extent.

An improvement cap: either the ability to only build, say, five factories at any one time in your cities, or like in civ 4, where you can build one cathedral for every four temples, an option for either/or in the editor would be wonderful.

Better AI concerning naval units, naval bombardment, naval invasions, and just in general better naval strategy.

MAKE SEA STACKS MOVE AT ONCE!!!! I don't have the patience to wait for a stack of 4 frigates to move the length of my coast.

Land stacks can move at once, too, if it is deemed necesarry.

I will post more ideas as they come. I really really hope this is true.

El Justo's suggestions, from the TCW thread. I guess he hasn't found his way over here, so I'll throw them out where the folks who need to see it CAN see it. Sorry El-J, once you find this.hehe.

"shut off razing" flag: oh man - how this would make my job so much easier!

'smart' AI arty usage: imagine if the AI rolled up on 'ya w/ a SOD loaded w/ arty pieces?!

"nuclear differentiation": by this i mean that i would like to see a scaled range of sort wrt to the effects of a nuclear bomb. i mean, the "Fat Man" over Nagasaki was much less powerful (by a huge margian really) than say a "Peacekeeper" ICBM.

a "shut off pollution" flag: again, this'd probably give me a few less headaches.

ability to allocate a specific movement rate for rails: ie - none of the 'insta-move' aspects of the existing rails. sure you could leave it in there (sort of like the 'infinite bombard' flag for air units). but to be able to eliminate that 'insta-move' aspect would be a good start.

additional culture groups: duh!

enhanced 'alliance-war' settings: say, for example, i want to flag one nation as 'never declare war against country x' but not be in a 'locked alliance'. more allowable alliances through the editor would be nice also.

more differentiations in terrain tile bonus-maluses: say i want to flag LM Mountains as impassable but allow for the standard Mountain to be traversable.

there's probably dozens more stuff i could think of - and i know a few of you guys would be able to rattle off a buch as well. all food for thought :D

Folks, I am reading all these posts plus the spinoffs on other threads.

Bottom line: has anybody contacted TakeTwo to confirm there is a possibility?
I would imagine they would give a yes or now to this question. Does TakeTwo even own the rights to Civ III?

5 minutes ago I emailed the most appropriate address I could find on the Take-Two web site.

I am not holding my breath for a response, but we shall see.

Well, Take-Two has been in contact with Pinktaplia and Drift about using their mod, so we can only hope.

Just a vision: Could it be, that TeTurkan´s new mod could be a central part of that new Civ 3-release ?

He is so quiet, but working since more than 3 months again on his big project.:)
This would definitely be more than a "Platinum edition".

Than Civ 3 ToT (=Test of Time) would be a good name. Civ 2 Test of Time (ToT) was the last and in my eyes best edition of Civ 2.
And...Test of Time is the working title of TeTurkans mod.

And this was reported by BadKharma at Evo: "I went to take 2's website and it lists sid maier civilization as their rights interesting since the complete edition is under Atari".

great comments here gentlemen :D and thanks Cheezy for bringing that post over. you saved me 'C&P' time - thanks dude.

my question to all these rumours is this:

would take2 actually spend the cash/man-power to compile a 'Test of Time' or 'Platinum' edition of civ3 to include only fan-made stuff in it? i mean, why would i as the consumer go out and buy a 4th incarantion of a product that has only these fan-made mods/scenarios and no changes to the game engine or code? furthermore, i as the consumer could just as easily go to CFC and DL the stuff for free. so why would i pay for that?

Why did Atari make "Gold" and "Complete"? -- nothing new was added for these - just bundles of existing software.

Yet they sold, and sold well.

As for code - less likely than "unlikely". It's not like we actually have the code for Civ4 - we have an SDK - which any developer can tell you isn't code, it's a tool that lets you hook into the existing code.

I do agree it would be nice to get some of the bugs out of COnquests - particularly the sub bug - after all, it was fixed in PTW. But where are they going to come up with programmers (and money to pay them) to do actual wirk?

yes Padma - i agree w/ your points. :)

however, 'Gold' and 'Complete' are essentially what a 'Platinum' or 'Test of Time' would be. iow, it's already been done. so i wonder why a 4th version is even contemplated?
