Coca plant (cocaine) Resource

There have been some talks about a narcotics resource, and i think that cocaine is a very region specific drug resource. So i have made these bushes to represent the crop.

Graphically, it would replace the Sugar resource, but of course you can write the xml to make this an independant resource, just use the sugar info.

(those red things are not christmas lights, they are berries. And yes, i misspelled "Coca" in the picture :crazyeye: )

The cocoa plant is also the source of chocolate <same identical plant cocaine comes from the leaves and chocolate from the beans> ...eheh the original coca cola takes its flavor and addictiveness from cocaine <nowadays it uses caffine and high fructose corn syrup> pepsi takes its name and flavor from pepsin <a laxitive plant> Dr pepper from carbonated prune juice some odd but interestign trivia
 
I'm fairly shure your mistaken on Chocolate and Cocaine coming from the same plant they just have similar names and I think it would be nice to see chocolate as a new resorce as well

Nice work but I'm concerned that the visual difference with Sugar is insufficient for easy Identification if someone is using both at the same time. Perhaps using a darker shade of green would do the trick. Can we see a side by side comparison to evaluate if its a problem?
 
I see you have removed most of the stem portion of the plant, clever. I still think a color change will help make it more unique, darkening the leaves to a deep forest green would look nice.
 
actually, after removing the cane stems, i added the incense stems instead. Although after doing the L system thing, the stems skin became light grey. Oh well. I will look into darkening those leaves. But i hope the current product shows enough differentiation from the sugar.
 
Chocolate and cocaine do NOT come from the same plant. One is the coca plant and the other is the cocoa tree. They're not even in the same Plant order though they are in the same family... along with magnolias, roses, and many other widely varied flowering plants.
 
I knew i was about to be corrected. the picture is misspelled :P

He's is absolutely right!! I dont think you would get "chocolate" that would be legal if you made it from coca instead of coco
 
Oh... and of course, nice graphic :) I'm probably going to make use of it in my mod since the mod's slogan has long been: "Historically Accurate Not Politically Correct!"

I disagree, Civ4 is a game of entertainment, not a game of history, despite it's strong historical theme.

Adding a mod like this only glorifies illegal drug use. I don't have stats on the average age of the Civ4 player base, but I'd lay even money that it's somewhere in the 16-26 demographic. Great group of people to have playing a game that makes drugs fun.

Of course, you can put up wall after ditch after moat to defend your position. And when you find yourself about to be overrun, you can always fall back on the two cop-outs- it's just a game, and hey, it's a mod, don't play it if you don't want to.

Despite players' ages... I don't think anybody here would do a line of blow just because they downloaded a coca plant resource for their game. :confused: And if they have THAT ease of access to the real-life drug anyway, then there's something wrong in their personal lives to begin with... :rolleyes:

That's like saying: Because I build an infantry unit, I'm now more inclined to go out and shoot somebody for real. Or better yet, I discovered Islam in my Marathon game... now I'm going to convert in real life! :lol:




What about a poppy plant? Would you protest having that in the game, too, because it would make people want to shoot up? :mischief:

That code is terrible, the loop will only execute once making it completly obtuse and you forgot two of your ";" so it wont even compile. If your going to make a code joke atleast write desent code, even if you are high.
 
Oh and lets not forget that alcohol and tobacco still kill more people per month than all the illegal drugs in this world combined. The real reason these drugs are illegal today is for political and economic reasons-not for health or social reasons.
In the case of Heroin and Cocaine, their value to 'Left Wing Guerillas' in South America and SE Asia made the US very keen to ban their sale and use. In the case of Hemp, it was because it was a threat to the timber, oil and artificial fibre industries.
Of course, the attractiveness and risks associated with many of these drugs are as a direct-or indirect-result of their prohibition, much in the same way as when alcohol was prohibited in the 1920's.
