A woman dubbed the "lesbian vampire killer", who was jailed for life after murdering a father-of-five and drinking his blood, may soon be transferred to lower security.

Queensland's Chief Justice Paul de Jersey ordered authorities to promptly hand down a decision on whether self-proclaimed vampire Tracey Avril Wigginton should be transferred to a Gold Coast prison farm.
She was 24 years old when she was jailed in 1991, after pleading guilty in the Supreme Court in Brisbane to the brutal slaying of council worker Edward Baldock, 47.

Wigginton, her lesbian lover and another female couple lured a drunk Mr Baldock into their car before taking him to Orleigh Park, in the inner-city Brisbane suburb of West End.

In the early hours of October 21, 1989, Wigginton stabbed him 27 times in a frenzied attack, leaving him almost decapitated, before drinking his blood.
She was traced because she left her bank card in her victim's shoe.
During a trial involving her three co-accused, a jury heard Wigginton and the other women hatched a plan to kill a random victim so she could "feed" her cravings for blood.

The court heard her lover Lisa Ptaschinski, who was found guilty of murder, told police Wigginton claimed she did not eat solid food and lived on pig and cow blood from butchers.

Ptaschinski also said she had on numerous occasions cut open her wrist to let Wigginton suck her blood. Co-accused Kim Jervis, who was convicted of manslaughter, testified Wigginton claimed to be a vampire.Jervis' then partner Tracey Waugh, who was acquitted of the crime, told police Wigginton was the devil's bride and had satanic powers. The prosecutor at the trial likened the horrific ordeal to the script of a late-night movie.Wigginton was moved to Numinbah prison farm in the Gold Coast hinterland in 2003 but transferred to the Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre in June last year.

Her move was based on allegations she assaulted a prison guard and fellow prisoner, and that she later intimidated the inmate into withdrawing her complaint.
The Supreme Court was told corrective services reviewed the transfer at Wigginton's request but announced in August last year the decision would be upheld.
She then pushed for a judicial review, claiming she had been denied natural justice because she was unaware of the allegations of assault and intimidation.
Her lawyer told the court there were no charges arising from the alleged assault and she had not been breached. In November, corrective services pledged to again review the transfer, and despite allegedly being told a final decision would be handed down by mid-February, Wigginton is yet to receive an outcome.

Chief Justice de Jersey described the review as "patchy" and marked by "delay, indecision and equivocation". He ordered corrective services' CEO to "forthwith" conduct a review of her security classification and placement. Chief Justice de Jersey also ordered corrective services officers to give her lawyers a preliminary view by Friday and, once she has responded, make a final decision within two weeks.
