Um, Decided to try modifying a infantry unit, and with a self made hat, and bits and pieces from other stuff, I come up with this, I know it isn't to great, but I am proud if it. :p

I personally think this would be a better UU for England than the Redcoat, though they are basically the same. This one is just from a few years later and a war they actually won. :p

It wears the Belgic/Waterloo/Wellington Shako, and the uniform is patterned roughly off line units from that time. (1815)
So in real life this would probably be a Pennisular and Waterloo veteran (also know as "PBI" "Poor Bloody Infantry").

It uses the Rifleman's animations.

Hi Man,

Nice unit, very nice.....even if it's a :vomit: Redcoat that won at Waterloo.
More seriously.

Hian the Frog.

Nice unit and great hat! I always thought a later redcoat would be a better representation of the rifleman era (the one in vanilla looks like it should replace the musketman). Are you going to make the Scottish Highlander you requested too?

Good idea. I just made it so that the Musketman changes to the art_def_english_redcoat once entering the Industrial Age. This way both the 18th Century British Regulars and 19th Century British Regulars are represented.

(Did the same thing with the Musketman from Frederick's Prussians)

I have been trying (a lot) but that kilt is really going to be the tough part.. I have an attempt at the hat made, but I don't know if it looks right...
Maybe I will post a pic. :)

That sounds like a cool idea. ;) I think there should actually be one more musket unit in there (Musket Infantry?) at Replaceable parts. And then Riflemen are kicked back to maybe corporation, something to represent them repeater/breechloader and them being viable as the main infantry weapon..

I don't know wether you make things with 3d max or with blender, but just off the top of my head, you may want to take a look at the Janissary model. Since he’s wearing a riding coat tied with a sash that comes down to around his knees, the model should be able to be easily reskinned or modified in 3d max to look like he’s wearing a kilt. He is wearing boots though and I'm not sure what type of footwear the Highlanders use, but I think they should be able to be reskinned off if needed. I'm not sure if any of this will work though.

I was going to try to make a highlander (except from a bit earlier era) once but I never exactly got around to it. It would be nice if you made one.:)

Edit: Post the pic of the hat please! :) The sooner Highlanders are in civ 4 the better.

I am making them with blender and that makes it tough with infantry as whenever you import it you you lose a lot of the bones and stuff that are not used or something, and that messes everything up. So the only way I did this unit, the regular , was I took another unit that had a different hat/head on the rifleman (and so a different NiTriShape) deleted that and added my thing in..

(Actually it was your African Rifleman).

Boots would work great, they sometimes wore stockings checkered. I will scan in a couple picks from this amazing book I have.. And the hat to.

First off the hat.. I think I need to expand it more vertically judging from the next pic.

And a Highlander himself..

The hat looks good! I do agree with you that it needs to be a bit higher.
Hmmm… I only use blender too. There is a trick I could try to modify the Janissary model to look more like it’s wearing a kilt for you, though it may not work and if it does the unit will not have a FX version (As far as I can tell, this doesn’t matter all that much.).

Not, the FX is just for extra higher end things, nothing too important.

Could you get rid of the hat to please? That I have not figured out yet..

You mean the Janissary hat? I can do it, but I usually don't use blender for that, I just shrink the headnode in the nif veiwer and attach a new one, similar to your Redcoat.

This shouldn't take too long, so you can expect a screenshot later in the evening or tommorrow, if I'm not attack by a case of misfortune of course.

Cool..

About the hat, I just realized that as I was going to sleep last night. :p

I kept thinking you had to shrink the head to 0.000, and that wouldn't work as even if you put the new head at 100.000 to compensate, 100x0 still equals 0.

But then it his me if you put the original head at .100 and the new on at 10.00 it would work. :p (Reinventing the wheel I know.)

Haven't had a chance to try it out though..

Well here it is! There is a screenshot in the zip file. It uses the redcoat animation.
The Janissary dds file is a bit different from the vanilla because I deleted and merged some of the overcoat vertices. Only the kilt part is skinned, I just cut and pasted a part from the image you posted so you would know what part was the kilt. I took a look at the leggings and you should be able to reskin them to look like the picture pretty easily.
I also took the liberty to attach the rifleman's backpack because the image you posted had a backpack too. You can easily delete it in the nif viewer if you don't want it.
Right now, he's just some tea drinking, fake british accent speaking, Turkish guy wearing a cheap kilt, I hope you are able to make a Highlander out of this.:)

Looks AMAZING! Thanks! I will try to cook something up. :)

And if I come up with anything that looks mildly ok you get the credit, if it looks awful you may not want your name attached to it. :p

I'm glad you like!:D I'm sure the Highlander will look good.
I looked over the file again and I think I may have forgotten to delete the main Redcoat mesh. Sorry about that. It doesn't really matter because it's invisilble, but you may want to delete it in the nifveiwer becuase it would cut the file size in half.

Ok, thanks, I will look into that..
I haven't actually figured out how to do what you just did (Adding the jan's mesh to the redcoats skeleton) as most of my time I have done ships and the like, but someday... ;)
