Here are the ones I usually play:
1. Darius (Fin/Org) of Portugal works well. coz, Fin boost the gold, Org reduces maintenance costs (if you are of Zululand the ikhanda with courthouses = -70% maintenance!)...and the Portuguese UB boosts gold on water tiles. If you get the Collossus - an extra gold on water tiles as well. And if you play him on Archipelago - well you get my drift. Darius of Sumeria (I think - its the one with the -75% maintenance UB) also is great = funding for super armies. 2. Tokugawa/Boudica of Zululand(fast Impis!)/Mongolia(mounted units!)/Portugal(Archipelago maps, great UB). I might use Jao (Imp/Exp) of Portugal too for quick naval supremacy. You guys have any other ideas/suggestions about great unrestricted leader combinations?? I enjoy experimenting and want to see what others have come up with. I havent thought up a good one yet for a cultural victory. |

hammurabi of summeria(early cheap couthouses and vultures with combat1).
Tokugawa of the Ottomans for one nasty midgame unit that is draftable. Protective leaders of mali on small maps(especially Churchill). |

I'm addicted to Churchill of Native America... Oracle Feudalism or Machinery (or MC to be safe), conquer half the world with killer longbows/xbows, and the rest with upgraded Guerilla III Drill IV rifles.

For cultural victory Elizabeth or Ghandi of China would probably be best.

Cyrus of Persia. Great trait combo for long term and progressivly more successfull war. His UU is great to start the war early and get your early GGs and second or third capitol. UB is handy about the time unhealthyness is getting bad.
Definitly Cyrus of Persia. |

Personally I like Lincoln of Egypt. Build the obelisk, run priest specialists, get extra happy cap, and faster GPPs. Have lots of GPriests to grab religions + build shrines, or settle and have lots of gold/production.

I personally think that Alexander of the Ottomans would be pretty fun to play. Use some great scientists to get to Liberalism/Gunpowder. Get strong janissaries and get them faster. And the hamman is a super early and very efficient way to breach the happy cap.

The usual, like ORG + HRE for those times when you just feel like 100% research all the time. This gets really ugly when you get to corps, and actually makes money on spreading your corps to your own cities (I have a game with +600 gpt with 100% research, insane).
Darius + HRE works wonders with this, good for early expansion, and keep expanding. Caesar also works wonders, but his power lies in REX'ing so it depends on the map, but Caesar + HRE = REX monster. Rome + PHI for those extra 25% GP production. (PHI + AGR/CHA for those extra evil praets, say Alexander of Rome). Frederick + HRE for a killer espionage economy. Cheap courthouses for those early spy specialists. Use your spies to get techs, expand with your military, and use the fantastic courthouses for expansion. |

I've only tried unrestricted leaders once, randomizing it, and got Ramesses of Rome. Romesses! He was awesome!

The idea was to get the most advantage of his UB since you get +2 happiness from it as well as double GP production from the priests.

Hammurabi of Byzantine. Draft like mad, conquer cities, whip out courthouses, crank up the cultural slider and continue your assult. Don't like the Mausoleum of Maussollos stop you, ever!
