The Lighthouse (An Immortal Adventure)

Leader: Ramesses II
Speed: Normal

The only reason I call this The Lighthouse, is because I finally built the great lighthouse in this one. There is nothing in particular special about the lighthouse or how I used it here, so be forewarned! It’s just another SSEWE game of mine, that is all.

Part I...

4000 BC
Alright, this one looks bad. First of all, I am starting at a sea-side tile again, which I really hate. Second of all, looks like all up North is going to be tundra/ice and the end of the world. Well what’s good?

Ummm… I guess there is a corn I can irrigate right off the bat, a few trees, and a LOT of hills. Too bad the sheep is going to be out of the cross. And unfortunately even the ocean has no food sources, but there is another dear in the cross. I may very well find a sea resource as soon as my border pops, lets see.

***

Ohh, and we got, FREE Cows from the goody-hut turn 1, that’s a good start.

And guess what just happened?
I popped another hut and got Free Fishing. I haven’t got this lucky with huts on Immortal, ever.

And you want to know what else? When my border popped, I didn’t get any hidden food resources in the ocean, but I DID find Stone. How lucky is that! It was right within my fat cross, can you imagine? I wasn’t expecting to get such luck with this start, but that just goes to show you, don’t give up on a bad start cause often you’ll find stuff to surprise you and balance things out

And now, here I go completing the Great Hall. My first tech I went after was mining, and then masonary to get that stone hooked up.

Note: I went scouting off to the far east in search of marble, and I found a patch at the end of the world there. I’m going to make that a priority soon.

StoneFence ready for completion. Stone obviously saves on trees, and the effects here are obvious.

Note, I’m running a citizen specialist. While the manual may not advise this, there is a time and a place for it, and it is here. Also, I’ve run citizen specialists a lot during oracle building to get the tech-build ratio timing just right.

And now I’m going to do something a little unorthodox. I’m going after the Great Flashlight. Usually I don’t care for it, but I’m going to go for it here because we’ll still try a gambit shot for the oracle, but I’m having some doubts of hitting the free tech after this prize.

P.S. Going after junk like sailing here is going to slow us down quite a bit from our goals, but I am hoping the extra trade routes from the lighthouse, will carry over into enough science by liberalism to make it worth while enough.

We met Musa. I know a lot of people fear him and consider him a tech master. But they are doing something wrong, because in my games I’ve never had a problem out-competing with him.

1720 BC
We met Brennus. Ok, that’s a little alarming to some. Yes, he is aggressive, but he can be controlled in a few ways. Let’s just make sure we don’t do anything to press his buttons.

And this is something you don’t see every day. Obsolete is completing the Great Flashlight!

Next, on to priesthood to see if we can still catch the Orca, but a lot of time has been lost on it now.

Great Spy pops.

PythonMids is just about ready. And man I can’t wait, so I can bring my pop up from 5 and get my Great Spy doing some double-duty.

Note. Culture from StoneFence has already doubled.

WooHoo! And we made it!

I took a bigger gambit by stalling a bit while I researched writing, but it was a good calculated risk, cause now I get a big jump on Mathematics.

Next, we’ll go after Meditation.

Time to found our second city.

Remember that spot I said I scouted to the east, at the end of the world? Well that’s where we are settling. Unfortunately some barb city settled close by (too close). I’ll just have to razz it later. But right now, I’m happy to get this spot for the marble, and being on a river helps, though I’ll still have to make a few road-connection jumps.

P.S. My warrior there already got promoted to Level II woodsman.

The FlyingGardens is ready to go, just one more flower pot left. And I don’t even have to whip right now. Production is going strong, just 2 more hills left to mine and I won’t have to add more production until the very late stages.

We met the Romans. Great, now we have the Romans and the Holy Romans. I almost thought that couldn’t happen.

Temple of Artimis coming online soon! Man, this is a biggie, and I’m sure glad I got that marble online early. Now lets see, the lighthouse, combined with the ToA. Hmmm….
Can it get any better? Well yes, if the ToA worked for ALL your cities, but it doesn’t.

Oh well, I can’t complain, I’m just happy to get a running priest for a while.

Note: FlashLight House culture has doubled.

why were you running a citizen specialist instead of somebody else on a plains forest hill when working on great wall and stonehenge at happy cap? i would understand if you were running Rep, but you didn't have the pyramids did you? not trying to criticize, i just wonder if i'm missing something or if you weren't paying attention to details is all (you wonder why i don't post games? it's because i notice those details a heck of a lot more in other people's games than in my own!!!)

Whoops! I forgot to take a shield-shot of completing the Poor Library. So instead, here’s an after-math.

Also, we popped a GM. It’s not really that bad of a pollution, because of the +1F.

Parthenon is now on the final finishes. The tech question was to go after toilet-paper again, or Philosophy. Hard to say, but since I have no religion right now, the AngkorWhat becomes superior to the UoS. So on to Philosophy we go…

Our third city is now ready for settling. That means, we are now only half-way to completing our 6-city requirement.

The spot itself is great. A seafood resource, as well as one on land, and horses. Not to mention some hills. No fresh water, but you can’t expect EVERYTHING!

We pop our first great Scientist, and use him to construct an Academy.

City #4 is ready to settle. The spot looks like it’s bad, and it is, and isn’t. Bad ice/tundra, but I can at least get something from the ocean. Also I have a fresh lake, horses, and some sheep so it’s not too bad a spot. The thing is, we need 6 cities, so even if a few are junkers, that’s fine, as long as we have one strong megalopolis.

And lets look in the capital? Chicken Pizza is ready!

Note: Hitting 40 GPP’s a turn without any running specialists, or Pacifism, or Philosophical trait.

Here it is, from bad to worse LOL. City #5 has to go somewhere. And if I don’t put it here, Brennus certainly will! So I’m going to claim it. At least it has some copper to go along with the ice and tundra. Growth and other issues will be a problem but we’ll just have to chain-irrigate and deal with it. Which will be avail in 2 turns.

The next question is, what about city #6? To be honest, I am very seriously thinking about putting it right smack dab on the middle of the ice with all the beavers. At least I’ll grab those resources. Or, I’ll take the barbarian city, but that city I really don’t like so close to the other. So I may just razz that one.

Ohh, and good news is that Musa is running a separate religion as Caesar and Brennus. Looks like he is fueling a war and doesn’t know it yet. We’ll do our best to stay out of it of course.

And soon, our toilet-paper tech for the University of Stinker project will be ready.

She-Male-Wagon-Paya is going to make it this turn too. Phew, that’s a LOT of wonders to get through. I wasn’t sure if I’d hit this one or not, but I did hook up gold to get the extra 100% boost. Seems it turned out well.

We met the Holy Roman Empire. Question is, would this be a GOOD or a BAD guy?
-ni

Alright, I took the barbarian city. This could be city #6 for us, being our final city, but I don’t like how it’s so close to my other one. I’d rather settle in the middle of the ice-field so…..

So we Disband this city and razz it.

Ooops! A hoard of partisans uprise and take the capital!
No, just kidding. That can’t happen anyway, we have the Great-Hall.

Great Scientist Pops. But I wanted a priest!

University of Stinker is just about there. The listing on the left is so packed with wonders, I don’t think we have room to stock anymore. Quite a few of them have doubled culture by now, and we’re now on influential at 139 c/turn. Unfortunately that isn’t going to help us much here, as we don’t have any cities to flip. Another disadvantage for starting on an ocean-side.
