The model looks good but the textures seems to need some improvement. Maybe someone more experienced could help you in this point. I'm happy to know there are other people missing (and working on) more options for modern ships.

I've included a low detail texture to help rectify the texture issue and if someone could give me some pointers on the texture it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you could always use the Firaxis destroyer or battleship textures as a base for your own. Some artists used them as a matter of fact for their ships.
