Problem with patches and game

I recently bought civ 4 and played it for a while, then decided to use the game in order to search for updates.........it came back and said there was a patch to download (1.74) So thats what i did. After i did that and restarted the game it wouldnt work, so i came on here and saw a couple of post that said i needed to download 1.6 first. So Everytime i tried, it wouldnt let me download it. Then i decided to just uninstall the game, but it wouldnt let me do that either. It shows this when i try to uninstall it : Error Code: -5004 : 0x80041f42

After about six times of this, ive deleted every folder i can find with the game in, and it still wont let me uninstall the game or Re-install the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i love the game, but im considering putting it on the ground and smashing it with a hammer. Im irish, i have a temper problem. T

(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).

First off, Thanks for responding i really do appreciate it, im not that great with computers so im lost.........
I deleted that folder, but now when i put in the first disk for Civ 4, it doesnt give me the option of installing, it just says play, readme, and exit. I tried to open the files and run setup that way, but it says that i have to delete the version that i downloaded earlier, and i have no idea where that would be........

You have to delete the Civ4 uninstall registry key

Start > Run... > type "regedit" > delete this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}

Or just copy-paste this into a text document and save it as a .reg file, then double-click it to delete the key from the registry
