Deity spying

I wonder, if you are FRIENDLY are your chances higher for getting a beg than just pleased? I guess we should maybe switch out of our religion for 5 turns during the beg, but beg GK maybe first?

Nope, no worst enemy penalty for trading to Ragnar as he is nobody's worst enemy.
Since GK beg failed last time we tried, I think it's safe to say we shouldn't try for another 20+ turns.

Well, we're getting shafted more and more.

Ragnar was bumped by +4 but was still Cautious -> revolt to NSR and beg 1 gold = success. Of course he went Free Religion shortly after!
His fleet turned around instead of doodling around the intended target city... I think he may have changed his mind but I dunno.

Had to politely decline theses:

Stole this, Banking and Guilds. I lost a TON of spies despite 75%+ odds *&^%&@

Super-duper-event.

Finally, in our incredible luck run, everyone is going Emancipation and I had to whip high pops in 3 cities to take care of that. *grumbles*

That's about it. I've started drafting Muskets from GT city, whipped some Longbows/Muskets. No further sign of Raggy fleet.

GK's huge stack is still roaming... me thinks it's only a mini-stack of his many's.

I'll take a look soon. But LMFAO at that castle build.. (especially with no stone)... Those don't work against gunpowder units BTW... Useless... absolutely useless.

Ragnar will bombard the culture in that city down in 1 turn before he attacks it anyway.

I lost a TON of spies despite 75%+ odds *&^%&@

I'm sure it's a bug. I have been going through the same absolute bullsh!t as well.
Of course he went Free Religion shortly after!
That's murphies law as far as this game goes. Next will be GK doing it.

* Edit. Looks like you were wrong about trading with Ragnar. It seems GK gave us a diplo hit for that.

Did a bunch of tech steals and trads, lots of infra up, etc, etc. Stupid random events were a little nuissance.

Raggy tried to DoW on us for a second time with his navy. Idiot fell for the 1$ trick yet again. Then he decides to unload his troops anyway and moves them in the middle of our lands for....?

We need to start planning some sort of attack, and soon. Here is my first proposal...

We land with a small party at T0nsberg, at the same time we land our primary force outside the capital, while on defensive hill. After capital is captured, we move our remaining cannons one tile over and capture Rosk.

The triangulation from these three cities SHOULD add a little bit of culture relief so the cities can become productive, at least for a little bit. This will also put a noticable blow into Raggy's empire.

Around this time we can make peace, perhaps get something out of the deal? And then plan for another hit after that.

So far Raggy and his vassal don't have Steel yet. We'll keep drafting a rifle each turn from the globe to do the mop ups after the cannons, and we should mix in quite a bit of strong MGs to rape the infantry.

We need to get a sentry unit out over there and see what's going on.

I already have a stable in Dump city, get a sentry chariot out or something.

Since we have TGW, maybe we should pre-maturely DoW on Ragnar (if he doesn't attack anyone else, or us) after our next peace deal is up. If we hit him in our territory we'll get 2x GGpts, so we can get one or two military academies?

Anyway, waiting for your turn Shy...

This was in the first post "The variant is simple - no research slider after alphabet (and code of laws if we don't get the great wall)"

Does it mean that the game could be as "I'm the Taxman" game? That is when economy is based on gold only. But now at deity instead of immortal. Also does "no reasearch slider" let any kind of specialists under repres?
Or rules mean that teching should be (preferably) with help of spying?

I believed it was mentioned that sci spec is allowed.
I've been luking for a while and I'm very curious why a mass sci spec econ isn't use instead of mass spying. The extra money you have can be used for trading some tech or upgrading units for war purpose. Spying in paper may look better than researching but thats without counting the cost of spies. And you will be restricted to techs that AI already know. With research , you will be able to gain an upper hand with some key techs.

Sorry guys, I'm gonna have to take a hiatus for a week or two here. I'm super busy with stuff and I don't think I have time to play a good set right now. I'll see if I can recruit another player or two to help us out in the mean time.

Thanks to some genious who thought preventing back-flips that was a GOOD thing. Haha! When will Firaxis ever learn?

What is it about being a condescending prick that prevents you from knowing how to spell genius? This isn't the first time I've seen this, it's ubiquitous amongst those who deign to exclaim about "some genious."

Thank you for pointing out you have no understanding of satire or other related humor. But since this context is for a succession game, and you have proven in your first and only post here you have nothing intelligent worth noting, then please get off Shy's thread.

Taking another fly-by, did any civ get the cirumnav bonus on us yet? If not, we should beeline it now. In 2 turns whip the galleon in Crab-city, and then head it straight east along the north border. This turn put OF in DUMP city into a sentry knight, and have it load into the galleon on its way. We may want to add another sentry in there as well. We need to see the garrison's of Rags cities and what else he may have when we hit.

I believe next two techs to steal should be Steam Power & Railroad... Sci-Meth finally is a useful tech here, since we want to see where oil is. No need to worry about it KILLING our science. The most counter-intuitive tech in the game, due to its misleading name.

Sorry obsolete, I can't play for a few more days I don't have a civ-able computer right now but I'll try to buy one in the next few days.

That's ok, everyone seems tied up right now with things. It will give me a few days to re-hash another battle plan perhaps.

* Edit.

I did another quick look. The Moai city should work 2 water wheels now to speed up that wonder (I think). Also, Darius's wonder capital seems to be culture pressed by Ragnar? That doesn't make sense, it's loaded with wonders.

Also, getting anyone from the other continent to take or settle a city next to us will be pointless. Brennus is going after culture, so his tech will drop to nothing in the near future. If Willem fails us, we'll have to bite the bullet and only steal from GK. He will hate us after enough spies get caught, so we'll have to steal fascism for diplo bonus. The sooner the better.

Continuing on our slow march...

First some tech trades:

Some stealing:

And a fun present on my last turn:

GK and Brennus made peace, which isn't good news.

Finally managed to take a look.

Well, this definitely doesn't look good :)

I believe we can expect Brennus to DoW Ragnar/Darius... which might very well end in Ragnar capitulating after Darius is dead.

I don't really see a way out of this one besides being absurdly lucky with Bombers, or some back-door win (spread culture missions ).
