Introduction:

Welcome to NotW XXXIV. This is the sign up thread. I have been working on this game for some time now, so don't sign up if you think you might find yourself too bored to participate. Inactivity makes games frustrating, and it picks apart the balancing I've done during the design process by effectively eliminating your role.

Now then, where were we?

NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLVES XXXIV: CHRONOMANCY

As the archaeologists gathered around the tome, a sense of excitement was building in the old dwarven mine. Being hailed as the first joint dwarven expedition to uncover their heritage, the Khazad-Lurchuip team was a revolutionary step towards dwarven unification. Joining the dwarves were a variety of historians from all across the known world, and many exciting discoveries had been unearthed in the ancient halls they now plundered.

But this tome had been something unlike anything else they had encountered in their days here. Deep gashes in the stone constantly swirled, as if ink on a page, refusing to take form for the onlooking audience. But even as the discussion about its possible use or purpose sprang up, an excited shout revealed that the tome was settling into dwarvenscript!

A day like any other
brother mixed with brother
but lies are told
and those grow bold
who seek to hack and smother

watchers gathered clearly
to which they held so dearly
but it's setup
their time is up
and save themselves they'll nearly

With furrowed brows, the historians gathered around the tome, and tried to make some sense of it. The poem continued, describing a time long ago when a hall of dwarves turned on each other long ago and murdered one another until only two families remained - and forever, they held a grudge against one another for surviving.

But even as the discussion reached a peak, the tablet swirled once again, and new words appeared...

This is a list of all the dead, in the order that they died.

...and all eyes focused on the Chronomancer, whose own grew wide in fear...

Setting:
NotW XXXIV: Chronomancy takes place in an ancient dwarven hall, which housed a tribe of dwarves before the Lurchuip and the Khazad were fundamentally different political groups. This game will explore a number of themes, including how the laws of time are perhaps not as set-in-stone as one might wish to believe...

Every player is a member of a pan-Erebus archaeological team sent to discover the deeper mysteries of the world's past. I have taken a few creative liberties with the plot of FFH, which is also based largely in my own ignorance of the canon, so if things don't quite stack up, then I encourage you to pretend they do.

DAY/NIGHT CYCLE
The game will split into three segments: Morning, Afternoon, and Night. Each of these segments takes roughly 24 hours to complete, although real-life circumstances may force me to extend some periods during the duration of the game. Likewise, there are certain powerful magics that can alter the peroids of time.

IMPORTANT: There will be abilities that can shorten the amount of time a given period may take. These will be rare, but I am warning you now before the grumbling begins.

VOTING
During the Evening and Night, conversation, votes, and accusations may be made. This is when the thread will be open for discussion.

ACCUSATION VOTES must be bolded in black.
VOTE RETRACTIONS must be struck through.

In order to be lynched cleanly, a player must have more accusations against her than her total strength. If this condition is not met, the lynchmob may suffer negative effects or even fail to lynch the victim.

SUPPORT VOTES must be bolded, and the color green. Support votes do not reduce the total accusations against the character, but they do add one strength to the character for the purposes of a clean lynch.

PERSONAL GOALS
Every single character has a personal goal. These are considered to be the number one priority of your character. When you have completed your personal goal, you will gain an ability or bonus of some kind.

ABILITIES
Every single character has an ability. Each one will be described in your character PM.

ITEMS AND WEALTH(Partially borrowed from Frozen in Ice)
[-] There are quite a few items in this game. Some have specific functions while others only serve a story role. Every character has a number of gold pieces, as well. This gold is incredibly important for several abilities, and can be generated by several means. Furthermore, there will be ways for any character to spend gold, which will be detailed within the game itself and should change from night to night.

[-] When a player dies, any items or gold that player had will be revealed and put up for vote the following morning. A player may publicly reveal their item at any time and have it confirmed by the GM, but it will then be put up for vote the following morning. Make sure you’re ok with the possibility that you’ll lose the item before you publically reveal it.

[-] A player may also show their item privately with another player; in that case, the player being shown the item will receive a private message containing a very brief description of the item. You can give an item to another player as well, as long they agree to it. Transfers will occur during updates, and will take priority over any abilities they may interfere with.

[-] Many Items increase strength. Any item that does will occupy a slot. There are many slots, and several items have a slot unique to their own, and only one item may be equipped to any given slot at a time.

How Wealth and Income Work
[-] All wealth is generated during the Day Phase. Every time a Day Phase ends, you generate your income. I will keep private track of your total wealth, but I would encourage you to do so as well.

[-] Gold can be used in a variety of ways, typically to power abilities. These might seem like a mystery now, but you'll get what I mean when you see it.

[-] Anyone can put an item up for Auction. Simply PM me the item you intend to auction and the starting bid, and the bidding will last for an entire day. Whoever has the highest bid at the end of the period will receive the item and you will gain the money.

Injuries and What They Mean
Injuries are a part of this NotW. There are a variety of ways to become injured, but precious few to reverse the injury.

[-] Injuries heal on their own one full day after they are received. If you are informed that you are injured During the Evening, you will be uninjured the following Evening.

[-] Injured players cannot take actions or activate items when injured. Players with passive abilities still keep those abilities even when injured.

[-] Injured players cannot resist a lynch. Unless receiving some sort of benefit from an outside source or passive ability, they will always die when uncleanly lynched. Note that this does not prevent other effects of an Unclean Lynch from affecting accusers.

SIGN UPS

There are 30 slots total open. If I get a massive request for more slots (seems unlikely) I will write them in, but otherwise anyone after 30 will be placed in the reserves.

Sure, why not? I love exciting discoveries unearthed in ancient holes.

In for the win, your last game was epic.

I'll be in because TFA is hosting it and knows his stuff so well. Plus I love heavily multi-faction games, that's what the next one I host someday will be and this one I'm sure is great.

One other thing:

IMPORTANT: There will be abilities that can shorten the amount of time a given period may take. These will be rare, but I am warning you now before the grumbling begins.

From the last game, I felt this particular warning did not address what actually happened in game. Not a big deal, but since I noticed it here before we start...I was particularly worried about something like "We now have a one-hour night phase" and then only like one or two people online get to vote to lynch somebody/send orders or something similar. But more accurately what happened was that phases were jumbled or skipped around or something, players still had a reasonable amount of time to actually log in and place orders etc... I can't know about this one but just in case others are worried like some of us were in the last one, or if a clarification on this one could be given.

Actually for that matter the line about the Undercouncil probably should be remedied too, unless it was intended ;) But really I'd look forward to it all, hope we get the sign-ups.

Chronomancy?! I'm in and I don't care what the setting is :D

Your last game was awesome, so I will most certainly join. :salute:

In RL, I am fascinated by archeology and the like. This should be one of my favorite games. IN!

in before the plague.

I pre-emptively vote for Autolycus, because he's been scummy 4 times in a row in the past NOTW games.

Hooary for crazy murdering dwarves

Addressing the issue of time shortening; It exists in this game. It will not be an immediate effect, but the game is entitled chronomancy - I imagine the ability to rewind time might exist as well.

Hm Hm Hm!

It's gunna be CRRRRAAAAZZZY!

(Also, Halfway there!)
