This is a MOD based on George R.R. Martin's series of books, A Song of Ice and Fire. This is only a beta version, as many more changes are in the works. Here is what it has for now:

A wonderful map of Westeros, thanks to David Campisi.
9 playable civs which are the 9 major houses of the series.

As of now, the 9 civs have no traits, UUs, or UBs. They are planned for a future release. City-States are not present, but will be in the future based on the minor houses.

The MOD is available via the in-game browser (A Song of Ice and Fire), and here.

I realize that this is a pretty bare MOD at the moment, but it will be continuously updated! Thanks to Kael for his modding guide! Feedback is much appreciated!

Well, it's certainly a great series to base a mod on, even if it's gonna take another 40 years to see the end of it :p

Is this like a free-form with the civs being placed randomly all over the map? Do you plan to do a scenario with pre-established cities and factions in their proper places, etc?

Is there any video game's off of this series? I've never heard of the book series until I start hearing this and the mod being made for Elemental.

Well, each of the factions starts in their proper place. I realize it just says 'random civilization' for everyone when you set up the game, and I am hoping this is due to not having any artwork done... I'm a total noob at this modding stuff (haven't modded since the days of Civ 2). I feel like I can do this xml stuff, and in future releases, I plan to have a full scenario with pre-established cities as well as a whole slew of new features and concepts. I would love to have anyone help out, as it will take me quite awhile to figure out how to do it all, and I lack artistic capabilities (just installed GIMP yesterday, and I am lost).

(About the 'random civilizations'... they are still in alphabetical order, i.e. Arryn, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Lannister, Martell, Stark, Targaryen, Tully, Tyrell.)

ljofthemm,

If you want, I have an old Civ IV map/partial scenario of the world... I think the map is pretty big (huge... too huge maybe). I spent a lot of time on it. If you need a world map (or another), let me know and I can dust it off and see where things stand.

That map had ~18-22 civs I think, including all the major houses and usually 1-2 minor houses (as vassals) to the major houses. Unfortunately, I think the map stopped working after one of the patch upgrades, and I was like !$#$!#$ so I stopped. If Civ V had a vassal system, I think it would be a great world to mod within-- You can have all sorts of houses start as vassals, only to see them scheme or play independently of their lords.

Having recently finished my 2nd read through of the current books, I would gladly play this mod once it has a little more beef on the bones ;-)

Of course the Starks will be my favoured faction - even if they do gradually fall to bits on you lol

@ Darkedone02: Nope, this is current a book only series and is truely EPIC! HBO have bought the TV rights and like many other fans am keen to see the release, however we have waited 5 years for the 5th book to be released haha

Nope, but there's an EPICLY GREAT board game based on the books. Really, one of the best I've ever played.

As for the smaller houses or vassals: maybe you should consider implementing the city state diplomacy mod. Wouldn't make much sense, if House Martell allied with the Karstarks or sth. like that and this mod could thus be of use for you.

But isn't that the whole point of the series? Always expect the most unexpcted ;) Though I agree that a better vassal system would suit this mod very well!

Anyways, I'll be monitoring this mods' progress with interest! :goodjob:

Yeah, the Game of Throne boardgame is a lot of fun! It reminds me of Diplomacy, but with a lot more flavor added in. ;)

So, I too made a mod based on a Song of Ice and Fire. Obviously we had to make them at the same time (and you got yours out right before me). Mine is totally different. It has only 6 civs (Lannister, Stark, Baratheon, Targaryen, and the Night's Watch), but they are complete with traits, special units, and custom art. It also has a map of Westeros and Essos, a Scenario, custom leader diplomacy screens (must be enabled instructions included in the modinfo), some rule changes, new city-states for the free cities and the unplayable Houses of the Seven Kingdoms, lots of Civliopedia stuff, and a new kind of improvement for tundra tiles. There are also different starting conditions for playing the civs on a normal map. It is attached below.

If you are interested we could work together, in fact anyone who is interested please feel free to email me at ezraingram@gmail.com :). For some reason, thus far I can not get my mod to upload through the Online Services, it goes to upload the mod and then tells me it failed with an unknown error. But, the mod works.

I think yall two should combine forces to make a great mod... or compete with each other to see which Song of Fire and Ice mod will be the best.

there is one thing that I wish to see in most of the total conversion's of fantasy mod is a different leader screen's then the vanilla version of the leader head's. If possible if you could, make a 3D style of leader-head's with possible voice over. I've have an expectation leader of something that look very professional. If you can't do that, then I guess it's possible that you could try to make it similar to what Civ 4 fantasy conversion do, just a picture and text dialogue.

Hmm.

I'd much rather see the modding effort go into actual gameplay design. I actually prefer the 2D picture versions, since it seems that even Firaxis has tough time making aesthetically pleasing 3D leaders. And I bet that modders can do a #¤%&loads of "actual, real" stuff with the time that would go into these leaderheads...

Just my 2 cents.

@ ezraingram: Great, I'll be trying your mod immediately when I have some spare time! And you guys should definitely combine your efforts :)

If it can be done by making your own customized animation's and not the vanilla movement, then I think it will be a great improvement on your mod. from most of the civilization games that I play, Civ 3 is great for making customized looks and also customized animation's, however in Civ 4... I never saw a 3D leader head with customized animation's. I wonder if it's actually possible to be able to make a fully 3D customized leader w/ Customized animation's.

Sadly I have not heard any news that we could use the same system that the developer's of Civ 5 uses to make their leader's. With that, it be easier to understand then letting us finding a lead on how to do...

It is possible. One of the people who has been helping me with the development of my "Civ of Ice and Fire" mod has been pushing me to do just that. I actually have the 3D expertise to do it, and all the information can be delivered in an .fpk file. However, as I told him, it will take too much work and not add enough to the game (not to mention the incredible size increase). We decided on custom screens but only 2D images ()at least for now). If you install my mod you can activate these screens by doing the following (from my the ModInfo):
1) Go to ...\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5.
2) Find either the GraphicsSettingsDX11.ini or GraphicsSettingsDX9.ini file.
3) Open the Graphics Settings file with Notepad.
4) Where is says: Whether or not to use static screenshots of leaders (this is the default for min-spec machines) UseScreenShots = 0 CHANGE UseScreenShots =0 to UseScreenShots = 1.
5) Restart Civ 5 if it is open, and have fun :) Remember, to transfer the map from the Mod's map folder into your main Map folder.
KNOWN BUG: The first time you play the scenario civs will appear as random slots they are not they appear in the normal order and once the scenario has been loaded once they should present correctly in the selection screen.

Also, I'd prefer not to compete with each other, we could achieve more together. I hope when ljofthemm sees my posting and plays my mod he will want to collaborate.

Although there is no game yet, there are 2 games planned by cyanide on the series.
Depending on whether it will look like their sports management/sim games or Loki, the games may end up either quite good or very bad.

@ezraingram - I can see you know your way around this better than I, and I seek not a competition! I would love to help out in any way! (I looked around to see if anyone had posted in the development thread, but didn't see anything. I figured rather than waiting for someone else to make ASOIAF MOD, I'd give it a shot)

Thanks ljofthemm, glad to hear it. I added you as a friend on steam hit me up later today. Sorry I should have posted something in development notes. I'm so excited we will work together rather than getting into a stupid competition.

Good to hear, both mods look promising but a combined one will hopefully end up being amazing! A lot of possibilities with this one, would like to see some more specialist units such as Wildfire, Direwolf and Dragon! But will leave it to you guys and your expertise!

KUTGW!

Modders,

I suggest you don't use city states to make a lot of the houses. I would make them as normal civilizations and have (some) of them be at permanent peace or other diplomatic agreements with the larger house that they serve. This is not ideal, but city-states are really quite useless when you (as the god/modder) can add however much food/culture/military power to any civilization as you see fit.

This is not to say that city-states are useless, but rather that full-fledged civs are much more exciting.
