I don't really understand why Stardock sold off Impulse, its revenue and success has been steadily increasing and while I have heard that some Gamestop stores aren't bad, overall that company has a very negative image and routinely neglects PC gamers. I also have 0 trust in them not to screw around with Impulse in the future as Gamestop seems to be run by capitalist suits who care more about money than customer service.

I never really liked Impulse that much. It seems needlessly awkward compared to Gamersgate. It tries to be a kind of Steam. I know it's sort of better than Steam in terms of how it controls the games you purchase, but still, I always found the platform a little awkward. I never quite got used to it. I did buy 4-5 games from there and I probably will buy more, but eh.

Oh hohoho this is a good April Fools! Hehehe I'MNOTBUYINGIT

I didn't visit the website, I trusted Princescamp based on the "NOT APRIL JOKE" in the title. Seeing as, once someone says it's not an April Joke, if it is, it's a pretty crappy one. Unless Princescamp got FOOLED like a FOOL (Mister T).

Does this mean i can get my Galactic Civilizations 2 updated just by going to the Stardock website now? I bought Gal Civ 2 and i absolutely love the game, it's the only good thing that came from Civ 5 in a way as someone told me to try that instead and i did, it's turned into my favourite turn based game of all time along with Civ 2, only problem is, i wasn't really impressed to find that i had to sign up to impulse to have it patched, i already have steam and the less DRM platforms i need to play my games the better frankly.

With impulse sold does this mean Stardock will now host the patches for the game on their site and i can just dump impulse? unless of course this april fool joke :D

I suppose for me it's ok as i only have one game from there, but for anyone with more games on it i can understand the disappointment, i'm not a big fan of DRM platforms, i only found out recently that if i don't log into steam for 2 weeks then i lose the ability to play my single player games offline, i was pretty surprised, i wish they could just go back to the days of serial numbers on the back of manuals.

You don't meed to run the Impulse client to play your games from there after you have installed them (unlike Steam). I've also had Steam offline for nearly a month (without having used it for two months prior) and it didn't stop me from playing anything despite not being able to connect it to the internet. Two weeks sounds like BS to me.

I've read at least twice on forums that there is a 2-3 week cut off point if you don't connect to steam and that the games don't work offline anymore till you do, however it's entirely possible those people were mistaken, i haven't tried it myself so i honestly don't know, if you say you played for a month then they must have been wrong.

I've never seen any proof of it, just a couple of comments on forums where the person cites "read it somewhere on the internet".

I'd be happier if GoGamer bought it, but really I only like GalCiv2 and the old TEN stuff that Stardock used to push (like the corporate machine).

What a blow...
Impulse was the only decent opposition to Steam, an online platform where you could buy, patch and install with just a click, without idiotic DRM, without idiotic restriction and without having your computer filled with spyware.

Now it has been sold ? What the...
A shame :-/

Haha, that's a good April Fool's joke. And it since the announcement was made March 31st and the CEO is playing along with it, it looks just credible enough that it might actually be true. Alas, I've been around CFC long enough to know that you take any announcement made the few days before April 1st with a ton of caution.

I don't think that's true, but I've never intentionally tried it either. But for the sake of science, I'll download one of my Steam games in a virtual machine and then not log on to Steam there for a few weeks, and see if Offline still works. I might need a reminder to go back and check, but it should be easy enough to not accidently log on since I have Steam in my host OS, too.

Its not a joke, just poor timing.

Just make sure the game doesn't have its own DRM. Last August I had Mass Effect 2 stop working and demand I re-authenticate it (I bought it off of GamersGate but its the game's own DRM that did it, as GamersGate doesn't add any).

GamersGate and Good Old Games are still good. Direct2Drive while I personally strongly dislike it and IGN (which owns it) also works.

Okay guys this isn't funny anymore! April Fools is over!

The devs of star ruler have removed their game from Impulse already. Sounds like the devs got a letter giving them a small time window to make a decision if they want to keep their games on the service or not.
