Where is the incentive?
Please don't respond with hippy tripe like, we should all want to help each other... the bottom line is, people are inherently selfish...
Where is the incentive?

You know, we have quite a good thread on this subject. Though, I fear competent discussion was not your purpose, in which case maybe its better that you started this thread.

Most people don't have a choice.

Yeah, it gets kind of old when people attack communism for a feature it doesn't have.
Do you mean "reality" when you say a feature it doesn't have?

If no one owns anything, why work harder than the guy next to you? Or the guy not doing anything at all? Where's the incentive? It's a simple question.

Devil's Advocate

NOTE: I'm pretty much as capitalist as they come.

That said, I'm pretty sure Communism teaches that to get "According to your need" you have to give "According to your ability" so just chilling and not doing anything wouldn't work.

Also, this is probably a better question from another thread, but IIRC Socialism distributes according to work done, and Communism distributes according to need correct?

"lolol guys im so clever look at me"

Because communism does not mean you get free crap whether you work or don't work? There's an expectation to contribute to society still in place, and people do still "own" things like a house, a car, etc.

For all intents and purposes you can think of them as the same thing. Communism is simply more pure.

Why doesn't everyone just read the "Ask a Red" thread? Anything that will be brought up in this thread to demonstrate why Communism works would already have been mentioned in that thread, in greater detail too.

I suppose this is the type of answer you're looking for:

Because he's having one of those reactionary short-circuit moments where they lose all control and foam at the mouth towards The Red Menace. Stick around long enough and you'll see more of these. My personal favorites are the long Merkinballesque rants where they slowly work themselves up from homicidal rage to flailing-their-superior-morality-at-the-keyboard fervor.

You do realize that (at least here in Canada), you're only obligated to taking care of a child until he or she is 16 years of age.

Why would not everyone just kick all their children out once they reach that age then?

So, this?

Link to video.

They use their left mind? I think any form of government will work if done correctly. It is when one uses one form (of governing) to obtain the results of another form that things become, well, interesting and news worthy.

Well, are you saying we should treat everyone like our children?

Yes, because at -2.12/-2.6 I am such a reactionary...
It's a simple question, answer it if you can.

I'm saying that rampant selfishness is not a universal trait. And it can even be a byproduct of our capitalist system.

We are selfish because if we are not, then everyone will get ahead of us in this capitalist world. Imagine if we didn't have to be.

You can't compare one's children to other members of society who may live thousands of miles away from you.

Why not? In communism, the idea of brotherhood between men is heavily encouraged. And we see this in many unions here too (a very communistic notion).

Why can't people feel a sense of camaraderie towards their fellow citizens? What if they're born and raised to do so?

This is fairy tale stuff that denies human nature, as proven through the entire history of the race.

The closest you get to such a brotherhood is hippy communes, which fail miserably generally speaking, and religious orders with vows of poverty intact... which as we know are not to prevalent.

People will always find differences in each other and have jealousy of those who have more (be it material, or otherwise)...

So, you are hoping/suggesting that humans will just discard all this out of the goodness of their hearts?
Will religion play a part in this? Or will it be a religion of man?
And what of the disbelievers? There's never been a religion who gets 100% participation in even the most ardent theocracies.

If we should spare you from seeing our political scores in sigs, why do you place value in them?
Regardless, one can be a reactionary without being far right. One can make the argument the later Soviet leaders were reactionaries as they sought to return things to an idealized version of the past.
