I haven't seen a Legends of Revolution story around here lately. ;) It's really a rather entertaining little mod, second only to RFC/DoC on my favorites list. I've started a little game as the Greeks on a huge archipelago map, and let it autoplay until the late 1950s. At this point I decided enough was enough and put an end to the AI and its horrible, horrible decisions. The remainder of the game will be spent trying to fix its mistakes. :D

With that, I give you:

Eímai o Aléxandros - I Am Alexander

Gone are the days when the phalanx could call the world his oyster. Gone are the days of Greece's dominance. Under the incompetent rule of previous rulers, our colonies allowed to slough off of us and hold their petty kings to be equals to our emperors. My brother was no exception. Under his rule, the economy reached new lows, unfundable overseas colonies were established, and war was declared against the Dutch and our perennial enemies, the Portuguese. Now he lays dead, struck down by the blade of a Malinese assassin... and good riddance.

For too long have our astray colonies been allowed to jeer at us from their islands. For too long have our enemies been able to terrorize our shipping lanes and threaten our shores. For too long have our people starved to fund wars we can't win.

But no longer.

This day, the sun rises on a new decade. This day, the world learns to tremble at my name.

I am Alexander.

Awesome. Love the concept, great introduction. All in all, looking great so far :)

EDIT: That's the story, not LoR.

Lol, it's 1950 AD and you (the AI) are building the Hungarian Cannon + the University of Sankore?

Looks like you have some work to do...

Subbed.

Agreed. Completely. I've never played this mod, how is it?

It always keeps me on my toes, that's for sure.

And longbowmen, and knights. :/ I could upgrade both to musketmen (you can do that in LoR) and cuirassiers, but as mentioned, my empire is doing poorly monetarily.

The most pressing matter at the beginning of my reign are the Portuguese invasion forces besieging the island-colony of Aethiopia to our east. They surround in particular the city of Rhodos in great numbers. Though presently weakened by a failed assault on the city walls, if given time to regroup, they could easily overwhelm the city's defenders. Drastic measures will have to be taken.

The simple reason for the island's precarious position is its proximity to the southern possessions of the enemy. Portugal hovers past the northern sea like a carrion bird, with the twin jackals of Egypt and Mali in its talons. I will make naval build-up an important part of my reign. A blockade will wither Portugal's coastal cities on the vine and open the way to an all-out invasion of their homeland, once the time comes.

Attached here I also have a stability report from each end of the empire, summarizing the possibility of revolt in our cities. With a besieging army and an angry, native, ex-Roman population, the island of Aethiopia's cities, Halikarnassos and Rhodos, must be set loose. Mylitene is far-off and a drain on our resources. We will allow the Dutch to capture it. Something must be done about Samos and Tyrins as well, but just what, I do not yet know.

To this effect, I've granted the island independence as the Roman Republic of Aethiopia. They will remain loyal to us in our wars, and fight our enemies - especially the hated Portuguese. Four regiments of "oroma" musketeers have been raised from the population to defend their homes, and control of our garrisons there already will be turned over to locals.

While it is true that we are gaining around 175,000 drachmas a year, this is only because we have chosen to neglect our research, which is at a crawl compared to our neighbors. We must build up government buildings throughout the empire to reduce our maintenance, and find ways to stop inflation.

These were the civic policies of my brother's government.

In response to the urgings of the people, I have established a national assembly elected from each province to create legislation. I will retain my throne, but my power will be slightly diminished. If it is for the sake of my people, I will make this sacrifice. The rest of my reforms should, I hope, maintain the stability of our empire, and improve the economy.

With my first policies enacted, I have recalled the navy to our ports, and sent a few ships to begin the blockades of Egypt and Mali. The army has been moved north to prepare to help turn the tide in our new satellite of Aethiopia. Once our infrastructure is built up and my reforms put into place, we will have to build up our armed forces. Because our war situation...

I have a lot of work ahead of me.

At least Shaka likes you

This should be an interesting twist.
Gonna give a name to Alexander's dead brother?
What's your 1950 world map look like?

Welcome to the fourms! [party]

Look out for generalized greeting posts, especially if they come from METY!

On the subject of pancakes: :bump:

Subbed. Greece will rule the world.

Soon, we see the first results of my reforms and of granting our erstwhile colony nominal independence. Our annual income has been raised by precisely 101,000 drachmas a year. We will allow the treasury to build up for a time so we can have spending money for our endeavors, at which point I will place funding back into research again. Though this will ultimately reduce the amount of gold entering our coffers each year, it should help us to maintain a technological lead above the other powers of our world.

Less thrilling news comes from the oceans abroad. As mentioned before, we have begun withdrawing our navy to its ports in the homeland to await reassignment. But three of our galleons were this year ambushed by vessels from the Dutch county of Oost-Indië. Only one of the three, VP Megas Pyrrhos, managed to survive the encounter. The Dutch vessel in our home waters was soon sunk, but the third farther afield escaped unmolested. Would that the Dutch could pay for this, but we must focus on Portugal for now.

Our first action against Portuguese forces is to disembark a medium-sized army north of Rhodos. Soon, the two forces meet northwest of that city, both incurring some minor losses. In the end, neither force is truly successful, but it is we that turn out on the upper hand from this clash. The Portuguese are set into disarray, and leave their places around the city to scatter into the island's interior. I'm sure they will soon be picked off by locals; their days in the region are numbered.
