Here is the thread to debate the Civil War.

I will do my best to only debate about it here and I hope others will as well.

The constant derails are annoying and I am sorry I have contributed to this.

So yeah. Debate.

I'll start:
The south was evil and deserved utter annihilation.

The Confederates never went very far. They probably shouldn't have, it would have increased the impression of a purely defensive war, but what's done is done.

But the North started it by denying them the right of secession.
They hardly denied them the right to secede. The south had already seceded before they themselves attacked the North. Before that, the North wasn't marching in to stop them. It was hoped negotiations could lead to a settlement.

But the south decided to attack first.

I dunno if it was "First" but you're right, the South did enslave its own citizens.

They enslaved their citizens to force them to do labor. Then they enslaved more to launch and sustain an attack on the North. You have your order of events all wrong.

Its hard to negotiate when the other side doesn't recognize your existance. Just saying.
The North recognized southern states as part of the Union. Then the South unilaterally decided to leave the Union, didn't negotiate and then attacked the north.

Who refused what now?

If there's a second civil war it's going to be between my town, Aberdeen, and Hoquiam. Hoquiam is nothing but a collection of cheaters and I would welcome a chance to attack them.

Hoquiam has nothing on the douches in Bellevue.

Edit: You live in Cobain's hometown. Neato!

The best post ever on the ACW was when dommy decided to claim the north enslaved their citizens. :lmao:

But the North started it by denying them the right of secession.

Which is why the confederate states constitution had a clause preventing secession.
Only a Republican would insist that States have the right to seceded by signing a declarations that states stated DONT have the right to seceded.

Please reconcile this for me Dommy !

Please cite that clause.

Very FIRST line ?

We, the people of the Confederate States, each state acting in its sovereign and independent character, in order to form a permanent federal government,

Also I LOLED

establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity — invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God — do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Confederate States of America

Nvm....

What do you want reconciled. The US Constitution did not prohibit secession, the Confederate one did. Seems pretty straight forward. Unless you are just ticked off the Confederate Constitution said what you wished the US Constitution said. Constitutional envy maybe?

Well, it's a little funny to harp on about how sovereignty and secession are inviolate rights while prohibiting it from the co-signs of your NEW federal government. Ironic, you might say.

All the moreso because no amount of constitutional haberdashery could have prevented - nor, indeed, actually did prevent - the USA from conquering the CSA anyhow.
