The tournament is done!
When I saw Royal Tenenbaum's faction wars, I started to wonder how much of its result would be determined by the mechanics of the game, and whether its results would be different with a very different tournament style. So I decided to begin a single elimination-style tournament. Here's how it's going to work:
-Every two days, I post the current matchup of two or three civs. For example, Egypt vs. China vs. Babylon.
-You pick the civ you like best from them, based on whatever factors you consider important and post your choice in the thread, preferably boldened so it's easier for me to notice and count in longer posts.
-After two days, I make a post that the voting is over and count all the votes that have come in before that post. If I ninja you, better luck next time.
-The winning civ from each matchup goes on to round two to go up against other winners, and the winner of those goes into round three, etc. In round five, we'll have the finale and determine the winner.
-You get one vote per matchup.
Get it? Well, then let's get to the seeds. Since we have 44 civs, the first round will consist of eight three-way battles and four duels, after which we will have 16 civs left for round two and all further match-ups will be duels. I seeded the matchups randomly using random.org 's list randomiser as follows:
Seeds:
In which every instance of 'bye' denotes a two-civ matchup. If Leoreth ends up adding a new civ before the first round is over, I'll add it in one of these byes; if he adds it only after we've gotten to the second round, the new civ is out of luck and can't get in any more.

To rank the losers of the first round, I used the percentage of votes they received during their match. Poland automatically received the 17th place since it was tied for the winner of its match with Inca and only lost in a tiebreaker. The other civs were ranked according to the percentage of votes they received. When two civs were tied, I broke the tie using the following criteria (in this order):
-Civs that were up against two other civs beat civs that were up against a single other civ.
-Civs that placed second in their matchup beat civs that placed third.
-Civs from matches with more total votes cast beat civs from matches with less total votes cast.
After this, two ties remain: Mexico and Indonesia are tied for 22nd place and the Mughals and the Netherlands for 37th place.
-In round 2, there was a single tie, between Mongolia and the Aztecs for 14th place. To break this tie, I looked at their vote percentage in round 1.
