From now on, all Israeli-Palestinian conflict related discussions on CFC should be held here and nowhere else.

Now blast away, everyone!

Moderator Action: [RD] standards are in effect as of 12/22.

If Israel won, why is it still fighting?

It is true that Israel hasn't lost yet. Which is maybe just as well.

But isn't that the problem? This thinking in terms of winning or losing?

Isreal is brought to You (sponsored) by America , that is why Arabians hate it so much. After all America is Wunderbar ! they have Coca-Cola and pizza ! They won ! ^^

How exactly do you win the Israel-Palestine conflict?

There is no conflict with a state called "Palestine", because no such state exists.

Some people have trouble understanding the reality. However, geopolitically Israel is now victorious — its major Arab enemies are in a state of civil war or close to it (Syria, Lebanon, Libya, the Palestinians), too weak and unwilling to act against Israel (Jordan, the Persian Gulf countries), or economic basket cases paralysed by internal discontent (Egypt). Turkey is an enemy in rhetorics only, whereas Iran is only using Israel as a convenient scarecrow to prop-up its fundamentalist regime.

Ergo, Israel has won and it faces no serious threats in the foreseeable future, perhaps with the possible exception of Iran if it acquires nuclear weapons and gets completely out of control. But that threat can be eliminated if the need arises.

Are there no such people as Palestinians, then?

Because some of them might disagree.

Are Palestinians stateless? (And which people until comparatively recently were also considered stateless?)

It doesn't look to me like this conflict is at an end. And if it isn't, how can Israel be said to have won it?

There are, but they're under Israeli sovereign control and essentially at Israel's mercy. Except terrorism and in general being a nuisance they do not pose a threat.

And the same could have been said of the Jewish settlers in 1948 (or "whenever" it was). No?

edit: still, maybe not really comparable. Just that Jewish people didn't have a homeland at one stage. Now they do. And Palestinian people don't.

I remember some commentator saying that it's as if Jewish people fell out of skyscraper (following the Holocaust) and landed on the neck of the Palestinians. Why have the Palestinians had to pay the price for the Holocaust?

And, yes, I know Zionism predated the Holocaust by a considerable margin. It's just that the Holocaust gave Zionism such unstoppable momentum following WW2.

I've learned today that Arabians got some cool city names like "Beer Shiva" - it's just cool ... ^^

They've got a notorious reputation for not favouring Beer, though. Which is strange.

I doubt it will remain that situation for long given both the Iranian nuclear deal and America's willingness to mediate in the Syrian civil war. The two are connected. And it may even lead to normalisation with of relations between Israel and Syria, which would essentially permanently secure Israel's place in the Mideast, if it wasn't done so already. It is completely futile for foreign powers to support the Palestinians if Israel has no hostile neighbours and given the only goal of Israel's foreign policy is to secure legitimacy abroad - and there are probably not much goals left after Israel succesfully finishes that - Israel may well become the Switzerland of the Middle East.

Well for one: Poles were stateless for a hundreds of years ...... yet we keep coming back like a bad habit ;) What does it proves ? Well .... anyone..... yes it does not proves anything really, maybe Palestinians are right I know if someone would create a country in the middle of my courtyard I would be pissed off as well....

Israel has won and faces no threats. Time for the American taxpayer to stop keeping Israel on the dole.

On a side note, if you had a time machine, would you stop George Zimmerman's criminal spree by:

1) Going back to the Civil War and killing one of his ancestors in battle; or

2) Going back in time to encourage one of his ancestors to have an abortion?

It's really funny, but in Israel itself there is very vocal group that seeks to stop Israel from accepting American military aid as well. Most of them are actually ultra-rightists who perceive American aid as a bribe.

Oh, that'll be why they are so happy.
