Please, only members of the Board may post here!!

This thread is for assesments of Polls which have already been put. It will determine whether posted polls are acceptable and give them a rating. Please note as there is no law with regards to this, these determinations are not enforcable, however it is strongly reccomended that they are followed:

Determinations are made by the 'Board of the PSC', based upon standards determined by the Polling Standards Commission.

RATING: Unfair

The poll entitled 'Which Cityplan do we take?' has been assessed and rated as UNFAIR by the Board of the Polling Standards Commission.

The Board and the Commission exists to evaluate polls and advise pollsters to ensure fair polling and an accurate means of determining the will of the people.

The poll failed to meet the criteria for fairness. It failed the following:

iii)Running time should be stated in first post of poll

The poll met a number of the criteria by which the quality of the poll is judged.

These were:
That a disscussion had been held and concluded and
That the appropriate links were present

However:
An unsatisfactory draft poll was submitted to the dicussion group.

The full list of Standards and Method of Assessment that the Board of the Polling Standards Commission uses can be found at the top of this page.

General Comments
It is unfortunate that this poll dislayed no running time, as otherwise it would have acheived a rating of 'GOOD'

RATING: FAIR

The poll entitled 'Do you support this constitutional amendment?' has been assessed and rated as FAIR by the Board of the Polling Standards Commission.

The Board and the Commission exists to evaluate polls and advise pollsters to ensure fair polling and an accurate means of determining the will of the people.

The poll met the criteria for fairness. However, it very almost failed the following:

i) Poll question is posed in an unbiased manner

It is not acceptable to entreat people to vote one way or another in the first post of the poll. As the statement was such that people should vote, rather than vote a certain way, it just passes.

The poll met a number of the criteria by which the quality of the poll is judged.

These were:
That a disscussion had been held and (pretty much) concluded and
That the appropriate links were present

However:
No draft poll was submitted to the dicussion group.

The full list of Standards and Method of Assessment that the Board of the Polling Standards Commission uses can be found at the top of this page.

General Comments
This poll was very close to failing on account of there being some biased statements by the poll sponsor in the first post.

Rating: GOOD

This poll would be rated EXCELLENT except for a minor technicality that a draft poll was not posted in the discussion thread. Given that this is a informational pre-poll anyway, it is notable that the official poll can obtain an EXCELLENT rating by following the same procedures and by posting the draft poll.

Congratulations on a job well done! :goodjob:

I concur with all findings except that my poll met most of the optional criteria and should have had a rating of Good. This is not a major concern of mine, however. Also, what do we do with an unfair poll? Perhaps we should get something passed where unfair polls become informational only.

The poll entitled Should we build an embassy with Greece (54g)? has been assessed and rated as fair and good by the Board of the Polling Standards Commission.

The poll fulfilled the three criteria for fairness which are

Poll question should be posed in an unbiased manner
Poll options should be unbiased and easy to understand
Running time should be stated in first post of poll

The poll met 4 of the criteria by which the quality of the poll is judged.
These were:

Discussion thread relevant to the poll should have been up for at least 24 hours, and the discussion within brought to a conclusion prior to the posting of the poll.
Draft poll proposal should be posted and discussed prior to the posting of the poll
Poll should be linked to in relevant discussion thread
First post of poll should contain link to relevant discussion thread

General Comments

This poll only failed to meet 1 of the criteria for quality.

Poll should be linked to in the Poll Registry

This poll was for information purpose only.

The poll fulfilled the three criteria for fairness which are

Running time should be stated in first post of poll

The poll met 3 of the criteria by which the quality of the poll is judged.

General Comments

Although the discussion did not last for 24 hours, the discussion was brought to a close.

2 of the criteria by which the quality of the poll is judged were not met. These were:

Draft poll proposal should be posted and discussed prior to the posting of the poll
Poll should be linked to in relevant discussion thread

The poll entitled Defining Aventine II has been assessed and rated fair and good by the PSC board. It met all three criteria for fairness, which are:

Poll question should be posed in an unbiased manner
Poll options should be unbiased and easy to understand
Running time should be stated in first post of poll
Poll should be linked to in relevant discussion thread

It also met the following criteria:
-Discussion thread relevant to the poll should have been up for at least 24 hours, and the discussion within brought to a conclusion prior to the posting of the poll.
-Poll should be linked to in relevant discussion thread
-All relevant information and links are displayed in the first post

It failed the following:
-Draft poll proposal should be posted and discussed prior to the posting of the poll
-Poll should be linked to in the Poll Registry

General comments:
This was a follow-up poll to one that already exists. It was overall a good poll; the only problems were that there was no draft poll and that it was not linked into the poll registry.

The poll entitled Switch to Monarchy has been rated fair and good by the PSC board. It met all three mandatory criteria including:

Poll question should be posed in an unbiased manner
Poll options should be unbiased and easy to understand
Running time should be stated in first post of poll

It also met the following optional criteria:
-Discussion thread relevant to the poll should have been up for at least 24 hours, and the discussion within brought to a conclusion prior to the posting of the poll.
-Poll should be linked to in relevant discussion thread
-All relevant information and links are displayed in the first post
-Poll should be linked to in the Poll Registry

However it failed one standard:
-Draft poll proposal should be posted and discussed prior to the posting of the poll

General comments:
This was also a very good poll. It would have been Excellent if a draft poll had been proposed.

The poll entitled "Should We Restart Turnchats" has been rated fair and satisfactory according to PSC procedures.

All three mandatory criteria for fairness were met, however only one of the quality criteria was achieved: "Poll should be linked to in the poll registry".

General comments:
While this poll managed to scrape an official rating of "satisfactory" and was in itself well constructed, I find the lack of prior discussion of the topic disturbing. Regardless of the topic of the poll, I consider kneejerk polling of this nature to be bad practice and contrary to the spirit of good polling that this organisation strives to promote.

The poll entitled "Peace with America after alliances" has been rated fair and satisfactory according to PSC procedures.

All three mandatory criteria for fairness were met, as well as two quality criteria: "Poll should be linked to in the poll registry" & "First post of poll should contain link to relevant discussion thread".

General comments:
This poll could easily have been rated "good" if only the poster had allowed a full 24 hours to elapse between starting the discussion and posting this poll, and had linked to the poll in said discussion thread. I can understand that there is a need to get the issue polled before the next play session, however leaders would be better to try to start discussion early enough that rushing either of the two phases is unnecessary.

The poll entitled "3 Techs From Now #2" has been rated fair and good according to PSC procedures.

All three mandatory criteria for fairness were met, as well as four quality criteria:

"Discussion thread relevant to the poll should have been up for at least 24 hours, and the discussion within brought to a conclusion prior to the posting of the poll",
"Poll should be linked to in the Poll Registry",
"Poll should be linked to in relevant discussion thread"
and "First post of poll should contain link to relevant discussion thread".

General comments:
Pretty much an all-round good poll. Although it did not achieve full marks, neither of the two points missed would have made a significant improvement given the exhaustive nature of the poll options and the long running time.

The poll entitled "Where do we build the Forbidden Palace?" has been rated fair and good according to PSC procedures.

Another good poll like the one assessed in the post above. However in this instance I believe that a draft poll would have been beneficial due to the impossibility of the final poll being 100% exhaustive. A participation requirement might also have proved useful for such a game critical decision. Nonetheless, still a good poll.

The poll entitled "New Laws: Starting a CoL" has been rated fair and satisfactory according to PSC procedures.

All three madatory criteria for fairness were met, as well as two quality criteria: "Poll should be linked to in the poll registry" & "First post of poll should contain link to relevant discussion thread".

General comments:
In spite of its rating of "satisfactory", I would have to call this poll premature. While the related discussion thread had been open for quite a while, discussion on the issue had be no means come to a conclusion - which is the principal problem here. This links to another of the criteria which this poll failed to meet: "Draft poll proposal should be posted and discussed prior to the posting of the poll". If a draft poll had been posted, the other particpants in the discussion would have had the opportunity to request that you not post the final poll until a later point in time, which likely would ultimately have resulted in a better poll rating.

The poll entitled "New Laws -- Valid Forms of Instructions" has been rated EXCELLENT according to PSC procedures.

Everything was included in this Poll. The Date of the Closing time, All Mandentory Requierments, Relevent Info in the 1st Post and A link to a discussion page

The poll entitled "3 Techs From Now #3" has been rated EXCELLENT according to PSC procedures.

All Relevent information has been shown. Time limit is shown, all relevent info is listed and links to the discussion pages are present and in good working order :).

The Poll entitled "Revised PI Procedures" has been given a Rating of Good.

The onlything missing was a rough draft of the Polls in the discussion threads.
