The Demon Council

Hosted by Zack

Kalzan, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Demon Kingdom, nodded to the secretary outside the Prime Demonlord's door, who waved for him to go inside.

Kalzan smiled and stepped inside the Prime's office. "My lord, there's a message for you."

Prime Demonlord Zack looked up from his desk, where he had been doodling a humorous cartoon. "Is it Serkantz again? How many times do I have to tell him that my hands are tied? The Council is paralyzed by fear of invasion from the Blood Mages. As much as I want to help the humans in their war, I can't right now. The Council won't allow it."

Kalzan shook his head. "My lord, it's not President Serkantz." A slightly worried look came over his face.

"Then who, goddamn it? Why didn't you start out with the identity of the sender like a normal person?"

"Apologies, my lord. Lady Hendarr sent the message."

"The Blood Mage?"

"Yes, my lord. The Blood Mage."

"What the hell does the queen of the Blood Mages want?"

"My lord, Lady Hendarr says the Hendarr Republic is sending diplomatic emissaries to the Demon Kingdom."

"Why? A formal declaration of war?"

Kalzan shrugged. "It's hard to say, my lord. All she mentions is discussion of 'the future of our two great nations.'"

"How annoyingly vague."

"Yes, my lord."

"Well, I suppose there's been no invasion yet. We might as well hear what these emissaries have to say. I'll inform the Council. Hopefully they don't lose their minds over it."

"Doubtful, my lord."

"Yes. Doubtful."

Night of the Werewolves LVI

Long ago, when the humans still lived in their southern tribes, a group of powerful sorcerers left their brethren to make their way north, where they could practice their dark arts in quiet seclusion. For centuries, these Blood Mages remained largely unorganized, with no centralized government to speak of and no ambitions larger than the study of their magics; yet, the other nations were wary enough of their dark practices to leave them alone in the northeast hinterlands. Some whisper that they are no longer even truly human.

Now, a charismatic leader has forged the Blood Mages into the so-called Hendarr Republic. Lady Hendarr has consolidated her power base, and there are rumors that she plans to invade their western neighbors, the Demon Kingdom. The Demonlords prepare their defenses, even as they reluctantly allow a small group of diplomatic emissaries from the Blood Mages to speak before their council.

Unfortunately for those on the Demon Council, the Blood Mages have no intentions of carrying out diplomatic talks. The only thing on their minds is assassination, preparing the way for Lady Hendarr's invasion.

This will be a traditional NOTW (abilities, items, strength, multiple factions, personal goals, support votes, unlimited private communication, no night posting, and so forth), so I recommend reviewing the NOTW information thread.

A more robust set of rules will be provided in time, but NOTW XXV: Border of Life is an example of a game with a similar level of complexity and mechanics as I'm going for here. A sample Role PM is provided here.

Looking for about 30 players. Reserves welcome.

@Zack

What can I expect from this game in terms of mechanics, etc?

I suspect Zack is deliberately vague, to see how much people he can get with almost no information
In.

Well, like I said it's a traditional NOTW. Abilities, items, strength, multiple factions, personal goals, support votes, unlimited private communication, no night posting, and so forth.

And here I was thinking it was going to be simple. :P

I'm generally always in for complex games but lets see how much of a workload RD is.

How long do you estimate you'll leave signups open? (A set time of whenever you get 30/near enough)

this is a bandwagon I can get behind

Whenever I get 30 or near enough, though if it's been a long enough time I might just cut roles at that point.

Let's walk through a sample Role PM. My commentary is in blue and will not be included in an actual Role PM.

Spoiler :
Hello player, and welcome to the Demon Council. You are role.

An introduction to the character you will be playing. Every player will have a public role which is known to all players from the start of the game.

Race: Demon

Your character's race. Most players will be Demons. Blood Mages are technically human, no matter what the Imperium says. Generally, Demons are from the Demon Kingdom in the northwest, humans are from the Hendarr Republic (i.e. the Blood Mages) in the northeast and the Imperium in the south, where they fight against their robot neighbors in the Silicon Ascendancy.

Strength: 1

Strength is the numerical representation of your character's combat prowess. Strength may factor into some abilities and victory conditions. Your base strength is listed. If your effective strength differs from your base strength (due to item bonuses or whatever else), it will be listed in brackets next to your base strength.

Faction: Demon Council

Most players will belong to the Demon Council, which is the town in this game. There will be other factions, at least one of which is opposed to the town.

Personal Goal: blah blah personal goal.

An additional, secondary objective in addition to your main victory condition.

blah blah background information.

Some background information about your character will be provided.

Team Victory Conditions:

The Demon Council wins if all threats to its existence are eliminated and at least one member of the Demon Council survives the game.

Your faction's win condition will be detailed here.

Abilities:

Ability. Ability description.

Any abilities you have and what they entail.

Items:

Item. Item description.

Any items you have and what they entail.

A good warning to our newcomers from other forums is that meeting Personal Goals is not required for overall victories, but they can sometimes lead the player in one direction, as a hint, and they also help determine the difference between minor and major victories, i.e. bragging rights.
