My first unit.

It only took four days for me go from complete novice to half-decent too.

It's just a Generic Tank (of AFV) with Civilpedia pics, units_32, sounds (run, death, attack) and animations (run, attack, fidgit, default, death)

There's no shadows, smoke or muzzle-flash ... but hey ... I just spent a whole day copying and pasteing 600 blinking frames

I'll just have to dl stephs SBB then :mischief:

nice unit, little while and u will be cranking out even better ones.
Ill give thumbs up :goodjob:

Looking good! you may want to darken it some, though. Also it can be tough to desercren where the turret is

Not bad for your first unit. Keep it up and you'll improve with time.

raise the camera, take it back very far, limit your field of view and zoom in until you get a good size. That should help out with the perspective problem.
The ratio I use is 4500x 4500z and 3500y, so that 4500x4500 square with 3500 height. I use a 1% field of view.

I don't do lights because they are more trouble then they are worth. Just use a very bright sphere with a fire or smoke texture for a flash effect.
What program do you use?

I see lots of promise

I use OpenFX right now Wyrmshadow. I've only had it for three days though so I'm still learning. I agree about the lights, they're far to powerful once you render. I might still use them for rocket trails though.

My question is how do people make smoke effects withoput having to paint evert singe frame? Does solid colour on a three dimentional shape work for that?

I have a preview of my second unit below. I'll be adding textures, shadows, flame and smoke before its finished though :goodjob:

whew, before i read your last bit about textures I was thinking that's odd somehow but both look wonderful and i can't wait until you finish your ummm rocket launcher thingy!

Great unit for a beginner! I have trouble making a stick figure move. I hope you make more soon. When's the rocket launcher coming out? It looks great!!
:goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

Smoke effects are best achieved with particle systems. Particle systems are something to master. Plus, the processing of them slows down even a fast system. You can also make less flashy smoke effects with basic shapes while using less opaque colors.

nice job-- I must say thats pretty impressive for a first unit, ive seen lots of firsts lol but most are not near as good as yours-- theres room for alot of improvement, but that comes with time, like the rest have said I see alot of promise in this work! Keep it up and keep learning lol I I will argree with Mr. Will when he says

I have trouble making a stick figure move.
Lol I couldn't do much either (though i wish some1 would make my corn chucker!! lol) Good work and good luck!
