I was thinking that every couple of Turns or so a newspaper (or an envoy that speaks of news in ancient age, a scroll in medival times, or a paper made with a printing press in industrial times) be shown that places all the latest events. Events like Wars that can be recorded with casualties on both sides (that would be named of course like the 3rd Franco-Egyptian War), developments in science, Culture attractions, Trade routes and nations with booming economies or ones in depressions, World Opinion on Foriegn Policy (STOP FUNDING THE WAR WITH ENGLAND), Protests on certain issues (WE NEED SPICE!).

It would be kind off neat to see these kinds of things all printed out in front of you. hopefully it wouldnt be long thus giving the player actual time to play

Yeah, and the paper could change depending on government type and how free the press is, ie. Communist papers would support the government etc.

They could also have an immigration feature, where if you suck as a leader, and the paper is full of "Bosnia is so great" stories, your cities could lose citizens, which would go to Bosnia. This would serve as a natural extension of the "culture-flip" thing we have now.

I like it. This would be a good way of getting you into the game.

Edit: Better than wonder movies, in fact.

I've always imagined something similar to this. It would be a great way to alert you to certain things. My only question is, how does it work in the Ancient Age? Some guy running up to you and saying, "Hey, did you hear about Bosnia?"

It would be difficult to make a newspaper that was diverse enough to be interesting for very long...

Simple: have a turn it off feature.
Although, this would only really work if the newspaper was scaled down a low and simply told you who was at war with who, new trade routes etc.

Also, you could have those "Wealthiest/Biggest/Happiest" Civ popup things appear every 10 turns (with an option to turn it off of course), instead of all appearing at the start and never coming back.

I would like a world report more then a "newspaper" with world events.

Things like:
-The scale of world wars (is it full scale or is it a war in name only?)
-world opinion of us and other nations
-Immigration report (are people leaving/coming here and from/to where)

I don’t think this is a good idea. The reason is that in Civilization you rewrite history when you play the game.

and wonder reports, that sounds like a perfect place for them.

Civ1 had that feature of sorts. You'd see headlines like, "WE LOVE KING? LATEST POLL RESULTS SHOW!"

This is one "eye candy" aspect that I wouldn't mind seeing implamented. As long as they didn't have it pop up every other turn, something like every 20 up to 1000BC & every 50 after that.

It might be nice if it was implemented as a news slider that updated after each turn or perhaps even between turns if a new city was built then a message could appear saying that the empire has expanded.

I like the idea, it could also be on the advisors screen, with a headline from around the world every turn, such as "Americans attack Paris". And then there could be some stupid side stories like "Squirrel Bandit Remains at Large".

I broguht up this ideas many moons ago, but for the most part it was ignored....but hey no heard feelings!! Two thumbs up!!
