Hey all Fanatics, I have just found out what the system requirements will be at, http://www.microprose.com

And that settles also the question who will publish - or manufacture the game, it will be the good old Micropose, now called, Infogrames!

Keep cool!

Thanks for that.

300 MHz? Looks like I definitely need a new machine to replace my MX200. Hey, but we were looking for an excuse to get one we could run DVDs on (since we have no TV they're's a good substitute for videos.)

one of the biggest reasons, IMO, civ is so successful is because of its low sys reqs. Anyone can play it! Hell, civ 2 worked on my 33MHz processor and 4 megs of ram!
THo i am a little suprized, i was expecting a game in the 166-266MHz range.

RouTaran: Civ2 will run on older computers than that. It will run on a 486 I know, and possibly even older computers than that.

Civ1 can run on an XT with no Hard Drive.

I must say that I am suprised that the system requirements are so low. I mean we live in 2001! I mean we hear again and again about the newest hardware - Headline: "Intel have just launched a new 1.5 GHz processor!" Another headline: "The newest graphics card, 64 MB on board with super 3D acceleration!"

But - thank God - Sid Meier still holds on to the wise words: "A Game must FIRST OF ALL be funny to play!" A game is not a visual show of some kind or a b-movie, it has to be funny to play, and then the graphics can boost the game's quality. It is not suposed to be the other way around, first graphics and then - mabey - some gameplay!

But for now, let us just hope that the requirements will not increase as the release date gets closer and closer!

My worst fears confirmed

Looks like I won't be playing Civ III any time soon. Our 166Mghz is working just fine, and I can't really justify the expense of an upgrade just to play a game, much as I would like to. We are trying to save our money for a vacation to Disneyland next year, so I know a computer ugrade is not going to happen. It's been nice knowing y'all; don't forget us poor underprivileged folk still playing Civ II

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the final minimum requirements, but some features would require more memory, video, etc.

I play Civ 2 Classic and have no problem with my computer, but I started off not using the animated heralds because they were supposed to require 16 MB RAM (I bought my system in 1996 - shortly before I bought Civ2 - with avg. specs and it only came with 8MB and a P 100Mhz)

I've long wanted to upgrade and Civ 3 is just the excuse I need. (Now if only I could get the wife to buy into it.)

C'mon, Leowind, can't you tell your family that if you get a new computer, they can visit Disneyland online?

"It's even better than being there, because you're in the comfort of your own home!" Anyway, I'm sure you won't be alone in still playing Civ2...I expect to keep playing it occasionally even if I do get civ3.

Hey kundor, if you can talk my wife and kid into it, be my guest. My wife hates the time I spend playing Civ as it is

Everytime I see new screenshots I get sadder that I won't be playing it soon. I'll have to start working on a way to make it happen.
