Fanatika - Where did everybody go?
I am currently unaware of the Trade Dept's participation in the forums. I wish to remind all leaders that their burden is to bring their topics to the forums. The life of the game greatly depends on this. Here is what I would like to see more often from the Trade Dept - a proposal for what we should do with regards to Trade activity next turn. The world market price of Incense must increase with the times!

First, the cost of establishing spies, to be polled:
Rome, 72
Aztecs, 87
India, 105
Babylon, 104
China, 70
Zulu, 108
Greece, 68
England, 141

Trade Proposal
Rome
Industrialization or Electricity for maps, 9gpt, 90 gold
Incense for 5gpt

Aztecs
Renegotiate the Incense and Ivory for 15gpt deal. Get 20gpt from them instead.

Babylon
Renegotiate the Incense for 24gpt deal. Get 36gpt from them instead.

Zulu
Remove the Incense for 9gpt deal.
Remove the Spices for 12gpt deal.
Offer both for 42gpt.

England
Renegotiate the Incense for 9gpt deal.
Offer Incense and Spices for maps and 41gpt.

Selling Flight (should we?):
Aztecs -> 31gpt
Babylon -> 116gpt
India -> 73gpt + 100 gold
Zulu -> 170gpt + 1680 gold
England -> Wines + 103gpt + 80 gold

What process can we undertake to see that some Trade deals can be made next turn (with citizen approval, of course)?

I recommend getting a MPP with Zululand and positioning a troop in China so they will be attacked. This will activate Zulu as an ally and break the China/Zulu MPP.

Contingency: If we do not do this we must either refrain from attacking any Chinese troops or we will be at war with Zululand. If we do end up at war with Zululand we should MPP Rome and position troops so the Zulus will attack them. This will activate Rome as an ally and break the Zulu/Rome MPP.

An MPP with Zulu could also bring the Zulus in on our conflict with Iroquois (pointed out by Chieftess, ty). And it could break the China/Zulu MPP. I agree with you on the Rome contingency plan. I would also rather have Zulu and Rome on our side than against.

However, first, I would prefer to keep them out of it by not attacking any Chinese units in their territory. MPPs only trigger if we attack or bombard Chinese units or cities in their territory. I'd prefer this course of action to try to keep our war as short as possible. If we were to sign a MPP with Zulu, we could be bound to honour our pact maintain a war for 20 turns. This would certainly hamper our flexibility on ending wars based on war weariness.

So we can atack Chinese units inside our borders without activating any MPPs China has?

BTW, thank you for pointing out the trade possibilities. I see now that we are at war with China. I can't find a summary of the last turn chat. Care to fill us in on the highlights? I know it's not you job but it would be appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, during the last five turns we took two Iro. cities, with China declaring war at the end of the chat.

On the note of allies, I am still concerned about the Babylonians. They are ready for war: they have a communist government. I would suggest getting them on our side.

Yes. Our borders and any neutral land too.

I wasn't there for most of it. Chieftess will get something up soon, I believe.

I suggest we use our spy to gather intelligence on a few choice Iroquois cities. I've checked on the costs of some:

Grand River: 35 gold
Tonawanda: 88 gold
Salamanca: 174 gold

For 300 gold we can know the garrison strength in these cities. That knowledge may help us decide to attack them now or wait until we can bombard them properly.

Perhaps I could try to clear some amount for the chat group to use if needed for investigating cities.

Those trade ideas are pretty good, but should we approach the Science Dep. about tech trade?

Personally, I am, as always opposed to the sale of tech advances to other nations. Also, I am still not in favor of MPP's, with anyone. I like the renegotiation of the trade deals, and I am in favor of intel gathering on the cities in our push to capture Salamanca. If the movement for spies flies, funding for their deployment may be available per approval poll.

On a global picture, we should swat back any annoying chinese troops that cross our borders, refuse requests for MPP's, and put the blinders on (so to speak) in regards to Salamanca. Let's just knock out this retribution against the Iroquois and get on with business as usual. If other nations' decide to declare war on us, let's think about gifting our excess lux's in an offer for peace with them. In the mean time we can ignore them unless they put troops on our soil and attack a city.
