Nominations: GOTM 018 Special Awards

Guidelines & details



There are now four Divisions:

Monthly Choice (Variable)
People's Choice (Best Newcomer & Best Writeup) -- New!!
Regular Division (7 Categories)
AI Division (Variable) -- New!!


The Regular Division includes:

Best OCC Finsh (The Yellow Star: Earliest SS landing... a competitive award)
Earliest Spaceship Landing (Any SS; not necessarily OCC)
Most Powerful Navy
Most Powerful Air Force
Most Reproductive Citizens
The Poles Are Fully Colonized Award
Fewest Wonders Award

There can be as many or as few other awards as suggestions and nominations allow. In GOTM 016, there were 26 total awards. Nominations can be posted to this thread, or PM'd to Starlifter.

The Deadline for GOTM018 Special Awards Nominations is Tuesday, 27 August 2002.

Remember that everyone at CFC can download the .SAV games and make nominations. You need not even play the GOTM to make a nomination!

Also, self-nominations are very cool. :cool: You know your own game the best, and the nomination need not come from one of your submitted .SAVs... it can come from anywhere in your own game.

Note 1: Screenshot nominations are welcome. To get the best quality screenshots, the preferred setting is 256 color, optimized palette, non-interlaced, GIF. A high quality JPEG is OK (at least 95% quality setting).

Note 2: If you would like me to make the screenshot, post the .SAV associated with the nominaton (prefer that you zip it to make it small). Just reference the name and year, if the .SAV is aready in the official GOTM Archive.

In case, these is no one get into SS this time, I recommend a "Most Advanced Fundy" award for the one have most techs.

This sounds like a great award. This would be one that I'd likely to be in the running to win. :D. Unfortunately, not this month though.

A "Leaving it to the last minute to take over the world" award might also work.

How about a "I don't need a stinkin' Navy" or "What do I need an Air Force for?" award?
 
I was thinking that there could possibly be an award for "Best Newcomer" or something like that for anyone attempting their first GOTM. It might tempt a few new entrants each month.

This is a great one - and we can award the player with the opposite as well. The LEAST advanced fundamentalist (though I fear that there may be several people in a close race for this one :))
 
Those are all great award ideas! :)

Remember to find some specific nominees when the Archives for GOTM 17 are posted by Duke of Marlbrough, too. :D The GOTM 17 Awards (Last month's) will be in full nomination swing when the results from last month are posted, BTW.

The Best Newcomer is a superb idea. We will add that one to the Regular list for the GOTM 17! When we see the GOTM 17 full list of particpants, we'll do a Poll so everyone can see just who the Newcomers are, look at their games, and vote the "best" (each using his/her own definition of what they personally like "best"). :)
 
Starlifter, please go ahead & consider my entry in the unequal development category -- as measured by the many irrigated spaces around few cities compared to the vast areas of empty territory. :rolleyes:

Lack of an air force would be one thing, but lack of a navy? :eek: In this GOTM, if you elected not to have a navy, you would've had to win by spaceship! How would you win without a navy when you started a such a small island? In my game, the Greeks (the last to be conquered) were on several small islands far from home.

Oh well, just another example of the multitude of playstyles, I suppose. :p :cooool:

Again i would like to propose a new award. How about 'Most War-ravaged area' ?

I will use one from my own game to demonstrate:

This area has cities founded by the French, Sioux, Greeks and Romans. When i reached it the area was controlled by the Romans. But before i reached it there had already been much conflict as can be seen by the different nationalities of the cities. I conquered it but because it is the most faraway part of my empire i could not keep it! The evil french took control and it stayed like that till i eventually took it back in a long and bloody battle.

But no sooner had i got it back than than the bloody Greeks came and took it! The French and I were both pissed off so as you can see we started to take action! But then my spaceship landed, who knows what would have happened next?!

People may notice the AI has a category... this includes the AI & the Barbarians. They really do some funny things at times!

Remember... everyone who is registered at CFC is eligible to vote & nominate -- you need not have participated in GOTM018 to participate in the Special Awards, but all Award winners must have a game which is accepted in Duke of Marbrough's official results!

OK then what about the 'Poor Egyptians' award? They were truely the whipping boyof this game. In every game i have looked at the Egyptians are nowhere to be seen. They did not have a chance being so close!
 
I nominate myself for most cities, I forgot exactally how many but I believe it was almost 200!
