I'm making a new PTW scenario of a hypothetical "Balkanized" United States in the year 1990. There are no new units or UU units. F-15's will be availible to everyone.

Rules will be changed, but no new units will be needed or used. I'm in my rough stages now, so bear with me.

--------
Governments
--------

Civil War - state of anarchy. No production or martial law.

Tribalism - low production and high corruption due to mismanagement.

Dictatorship - few, if any, political and economic freedoms. Martial law may be imposed for up to 4 units. Slave labor.

Open Republic - allows for greatest economic and political freedoms. Paid labor.

Limited Republic - minorities and most women are banned from political campaigns and voting. Slave labor, martial law imposed for up to 2 units.

--------
Civilizations and (Governments)
--------

MAJOR POWERS:

United States (Open Republic)
Confederate States (Limited Republic)
California (Open Republic)
Mexico (Dictatorship)

MINOR POWERS:

Texas (Limited Republic)
Florida (Dictatorship)
Louisiana (Dictatorship)
Dakota (Tribalism)
Canada (Open Republic)
Oregon (Open Republic)

---------

I'll have more details later, and will probably make a web page to simplify much of the scenario. Any feedback is welcomed :)

California should be two civs or in a state of anarchy. There are not enough red blooded types to stay in its military to defend it; it has too many liberals who would debate the morality of defending themselves with anything more lethal than a spitwad.
Also, La Raca has repeatedly said it will use the first chance it gets to start a civil war and take much or all of the state back for Mexico.
Regretably, the latter might go for the border area of Texas as well.

I look forward to trying it.

I love the idea of this, and can't wait to play it. You should leave the midwestern areas as under small tribalist governments like Dakota, so that it makes a good strategy for the bigger powers forced expansion into the "Uncivilized" interior. :D

The interior is not necissarily "uncivilized" (St Paul is more civilized than most places in America). Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas should be one civilization, with Minneapolis as its capitol. This would reflect real life.

Ahem, I don't think Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa should be included in the Dakota civilization. These states at least have more people than all but less than a dozen US cities....while the Dakotas combined would only rank about 6th on the US cities list.

If you TRULY want an uncivilized civilization, make a Kentucky/West Virginia one.

I do REALLY REALLY like though that Dakota is "tribalism"...I've always thought that at least North Dakota didn't deserve to exist. :) (name something useful that North Dakota has)

(nothing in this post is meant to offend or otherwise harm anyone)

Well, assuming this isn't a post-apocalyptic mod where they've all been used, sparsely populated territories like North Dakota and Montana and such should have a good portion of the ICBMs ;)

I said something "USEFUL". :)

Don't make me compile a list of why every other state but North Dakota has something realistic to offer. :)

Actually I agree that two Dakotas may be one too many. When they were originaly settled it was on the European/eastern US agricultural model. Unfortunately this didn't really work very well in such an extreme enviorment. They have both been losing population for most of their short history.

North Dakota is probably the best place in the world for Bison ranching. Bison is the cow of the future, it tastes like good beef and has less fat than chicken. Perhaps a bison natural resource is called for.

Not necessarily losing population, but they haven't gained much either. :)

Nice to see someone agrees with me.

Bison is not a good enough reason for North Dakota being useful, though.

so where is it

Bah, you silly coastal people!

I'm a South Dakotan in Sioux Falls, but I agree: North Dakota has got nothin' but a station named after Dave Barry.

*SD*, on the other hand:

I'd say that's a Wonder in the making right there. :D

I would combine Washington and Oregon, with the capital in Seattle.

I never said South Dakota had nothing to offer! :)

Washington and Oregon are among the fastest growing states in the country! Seattle-Tacoma metro area is almost 4 million people, Portland-Salem metro area is over 2 million. Olympia is about 50,000 or so, respectable size...and Salem is over 140,000. (I've been to ALL of these cities)

Washington state alone has over 5 million people. Oregon I believe is well over 3 million.

North and South Dakota combined have about 1.3 million people.

Anyways, I still like the idea of Dakota as tribalism.

Oh, and everyone should watch the Simpsons on Sunday on Fox, as Homer will say "I tried to tell them that North Dakota doesn't exist but they wouldn't admit it." :D
