The History Officer or 'HO' is responsible for chronicleing the history of our nation. The HO reports to the culture minister and the History Office is a facet of the Culture Ministry.

The canidates are:
Curufinwe
Cyc
Ehecatl Atizin
Naervod

This poll will close at the discretion of culture minister once a majority is met, if no majority is met, the top candidates will go into a run-off poll.

Here you go Stuck,

"A scant few days ago,
So very little did we know,
We lived and hunted, never still,
Bound by the animals will.
Then came the time when the great thought,
Of how a great people could be wrought,
we needed to stop, to live as one,
To live and work, play and have fun,
In cities, and thus, they gathered all,
those wise people who hearkened to the call,
they gathered people, wandered still,
And finally took rest nigh a hill,
Romans they called themselves, so great,
and never would there hearts be sate.
So now the people gather and meet,
on whether this place should be our worlds seat."

"The year was 4000 BC and nothing but the occasional nomads and many animals roamed the land. All was peaeful and nature was in the balance. But something was coming, something big, something that would change that area and much of the areas surrounding it forever. These people had no name, but they were building a giant city out of mud, wood, and stone. They were assimilating natives left and right. Would this be a change for the better of the worse?"

After 9 votes, I will bow out of this race. Please don't waste your vote on me.

Ok... First off.... It is EHECATL ATZIN!!! Get the name right ;)

Atizin?

Lol Strider. Try to correct the name, still manage to make a mistake. Ehecatl Atzin.

Ehtical? hahaha!! maybe you tried typing ethical? though I doubt I'm ethical  A creation myth? hmmmm, let's see...
At first all was silent, only the waters and the sky were present, all was darkness in the vastness of the seas. Thus was reality for a long time. Sudenly, Ponto, the wave Godess, who had been sleaping, adrift in the sea since eternity began; awoke and decided to create lands and life. Using her body she parted the seas as mountains arose from within it, plants and trees sprouted from the land while mighty rivers burst from the insides of the earth and began their journey towards the sea. Great puffs of smoke emerged from volcanoes. The great sounds of the earth could be heard, sound had been created. Ponto saw this as good and regoiced in her splendour. Still there was no animated life, only plants that could not posibly honour her greatness. So a great council of Gods was had on Ponto’s request. There, all the gods decided that the creation of life was good and therefore desirable. First, the gods created animals and gave them instructions on where to live and what plants to eat. Reptiles, fish, mamals, birds, insects.. all where created thus. But when the gods rejoiced and demanded worship the animals could not speak, they just made noises and murmurs, the gods where disappointed and enraged. In their divine rath animals were punished and ordered some animals to eat other creatures, giving them sharp teeth and fangs, thus carnivores were created. The gods then decided that humanity should be created, creatures capable of thought and voice, creatures that could worship them as creators of life. Xbac, the raven god, sudgested they should make men out of wood. The gods saw this as good and Xbac made humanity out of wood. These early men did everything the gods wanted, yet they were not pleased. These wood men had no spirit, they were shallow marionets without a will of their own. Soon they reproduced themsleves and populated the lands. The gods, dissapointed with this humanity decided to destroy it and start a new. Gorondi, the God of fire, decided he should do the task and great rivers of fire invaded the villages and cities of these stick people, their bodies turned deep black as they were consumed by the flames, Xbac also started turning black, since his idea had failed the gods punished him also, that is why the raven is black as coal. The wood men that survided were attacked by wild beasts until none were left. After the council had spent ten thousand years entranced in deep thought, Mahuel, godess of nurishment, decided wheat should be used to create humanity. This was seen as good and the council accepted the idea. These men were everything the gods had wanted, they could speak and worship them, they could create objects and houses, but most importantly, they had spirit. The spirit of wheat had been given to them by Mahuel, carefull to use her powers to give them what Xbac did not give to his people, a part of himself. This is how our people emerged unto the land, by the hands of Mahuel and by the sacrifice of wheat.

Ok, ok, I know that we first need to discover the tech tree all the way to politheism and a few other things, but a myth without gods isn't much ;)

EA

AS I am unsure whether a founding or creation myth is desired, I shall now add a creation myth to it. Again, as EA pointed out, this requires a few techs we dont' have, but how am i supposed to make a myth without them? Not good without a few supernatural things (myth that is).

"There was nothing. Not even time existed. Existence itself had no meaning. Out of pure chance, a great expanse of chaos came. Infinite in size, it was the womb of the world. At this time, a being came forth from Chaos, known as the Anarch, for he ruled anarchy. In this his realm, all of nature was at war with itself, and embryon particles existed, but never took true form. The Anarch was content with this, for his nature was chaos and war. He desired no beings other than himself, and so did nothing but revel in the war going on around him. This chaos existed for aeons, never changing, remaining utterly pointless. But, as the war went on, the warring ones weapons and forces collided in such a manner as that something was made. This was like to the Anarch in substance, being made of spirit. It was unsentient, but had the ability to learn and create. It caused the chaos around it to change to its form, and then it continued. From this intelligent material, a structure came. A being comprised of pure feeling, pure intelligence, thus came, the first of the mighty Shining ones. His very nature was of intelligence, and the world held none. He spoke in the tongue of creation, the music of existence, the foundation of being itself. In speaking this the substance of which he was formed came into being again. He didn't like this, for he wanted to rule all. It came into new beings like himself, and they immediately questioned the manner of there being. He then made a most arrogant claim, saying that he was the creator of all, and that they were to be his slaves. With his command of the tongue of creation he could control the world around him, and so they listened to him, becoming slaves. He never let any know of his secret, and the Anarch would destroy any being that came into his domain. He and his servants created worlds with this tongue, and new beings came into existence. They all were enslaved. After the first universe came into existence, all the Spirit gathered itself into one place, and it became three beings. These were wisest of all, and loved what they stood for, order and virtue, power and technology, and science and wisdom. They gave themself a simple name, as opposed to the supposed creators arrogant titles, calling themselves the Three, and the Sages. They spoke with the being of the universe, and saw that there ruler had lied to them, and was a tyrant. They gathered to themselves the wisest beings, and made a rebellion. They flew out into Chaos to create a world for them to live in, where wisdom would rule. As a final act of rebellion, they went and taught creatures that had evolved over the aeons various things, giving them wisdom and intelligence. They alone spoke the tongue of creation now, and their enemies spoke a different language, a spell-speech, that still held command over the world,, but was detached from wisdom. The Sages, being the term now used for the Three and their cheif colleauges, saw that wisdom would pass out of the world if that language died, and so gave to the smartest animals a portion of spiritual wisdom. Thus wisdom came into the world, and a creature named Humans came. They waited for millenia, while the Sages and there enemies warred. The Sages were defeated, driven back into their refuge, and the Master Almighty (for such was one of his terms) went and spoke to the humans. Some changed, and sought his side. And from then on the world has been a fight between wisdom and ignorance, a republic and a dictatorship, with humans being the focal point. But this is forgotten by all save some humans, for the Master would never suffer them to approach spiritual might. But he knew that they'd grow, and technology would spread. But wisdom he'd try to stop. and so humans spread and developed, with both sides watching."

Alright, I proclaim Ehecatl Atzin the winner and the new History Officer. Congratuations, EA.

oh, cool :) When do we get started? As I stated in the, um, culture ministry thread I think, I think this game give way to much history for one person to handle, so I think a joint group of people is preferable. So I was thinking we should have:

-Military historian: dedicated to all things military (duh!) wars and the history of our military units, ie great leaders.
-Foreign historian: dedicated to other nations and their affairs.
-Regional historians: I think we'll have more of these once the game progesses a bit more, each province could have it's own historian and that person would make the history of the province, it's ties with the rest of the nation, etc.
-Turn chat historian: dedicated to what happened in the turn chat. A brief cronicle of these events so the other historians can better make their job. A very important part of the Office.

So, what do you guys think? Curufinwe, Cyc, Naervod, since you guys were also in the running, I think you guys should have first choice on these positions, are you guys interested?

EA

First, I would like to thank whoever it was that voted for me. You are too kind.

Also EA, in response to your offer, I must decline. Thank you, though.

I am interested, I would like to be our nations military historian.

All right. Naervod, as military historian you are in charge of the written record of our military. You'll need strong ties with the military department, get their view on what you're writting. Keep in mind that we most likely not see war for quite some turns, so in these first turns get aquanted with the military, what type of units are they building, what for, what's their overall scheme of things and the sort. Once we meet our future provinces, er.. negihbours, then your real job starts ;)

If I can clear it with Shaitan, you might be able to open up a history sub-thread.
