In this thread, President Bootstoots has stated that he would like to override the Governors' build queues so that we may begin to follow Ravensfire's SS Parts Plan. I really don't think this should be done without clearing it through the populace first.

So, quite simply, should we allow the President to build SS Parts by overriding those queues?

This poll is Yes/ No/ Abstain and is valid for actions taken this turnchat only. After that, it should be assumed that the Governors would regain full responsibility over their build queues.

Poll will run until Sunday's turnchat(which is a mere 7 hours away).

I feel that under the circumstances, we should allow it for this turnchat only. The sooner we begin our Spaceship, the sooner we win the game.

THe purpose of this game is to win, therefore we should do whatever we have to do to win it. I think that letting the president override build queues for SS parts will eventually lead us to victory faster.

Getting the spacesip is good for us!

No, the buildqueue is sacred, it's "not to be touched".

The President / DP who knows he'll want to change buildqueues, for instance when Apollo is build soon, needs to address the Governors on the forum. And if he can't get hold of them or convince them he can stop the chat when Apollo is completed.

That would be sad, only 2 or 3 turns of TC, but a BQ is sacred.

And if a Governor allows the DP to take over decisions in the TC he/she can post instructions in the Instructions thread. I this time posted these instructions (allowing Boots to run Domestic if I am not there) :

Extra remarks
In case situations happening in the game during the T/C which need responding to by the Domestic Office, the following order is appointed to take the decision on these changes:
1 - Domestic Leader
2 - The President
3 - The D.P.

Only when in a buildqueue there isn't the building or unit the people have voted for in a poll, I agree with changing the BQ.

<reality mode> but it's now 8 - 1 in favor of yes, so another attempt to swing the vote is started, with hardly any chance. <end reality mode>

Yes, Rik, but the results of this poll show the people strongly in favor of building spaceship parts immediately. Therefore, governors would be forced to change their build queues anyway. However, due to the time constraints here, I am afraid that not all governors will be aware of every update. The President(or DP) should be allowed to act in their stead should that happen.

In situations like this, it is imperative that the people's will is followed. Or, as you've stated, we can stop the chat.

I am generally in favor of the discreet use of executive power to achieve national goals.

I also agree with Rik, it is also extremely important that we honor the Governor position (and all other elected officials), and only interfere in cases where there is no other choice. While we all realize it is hard to stop playing at times, we should all start taking the position that it is better to take whatever time is necessary to communicate and convince the responsible people to do what is right, instead of taking away their authority.

BTW this is a perfect example of how a chat can help. If the Governor is present at the chat, the President / DP can directly ask if the queue should be changed. This is also the reason I want all public communications from an official to the DP to be "instructions" -- that way it is legal for the Governor to say "yes change the queue", and it is equally legal to say "no, do it the way it is written in the forum."
