Another 2 hour lunch break wasted, as the ad says (or something like that) !!
pre-turn : Science at 90%, lux at 10% : -2 gpt. Hum, this barrack is costing 1 gpt for nothing at the moment...
Lesson of micromanaging : in P'yongyang, when you click on the city tile (automatic governor's tile assignment), the dye tile (1/2/1) is worked, which was the case when I started my turns. But if you change it to work on one of the bonus grassland tile (2/1/0), you get more food (3 instead of 2) and the same number of shields and gold ! This is due to corruption and waste.
We could work the dye and the bonus grassland to get 3 shields instead of 2 (settler due in 7 turns instead of 10), but then the settler would be built one turn before the city gets to pop 3. With my assignment (unimproved bonus grassland and wheat grassland), P'yongyang's 3rd citizen is due in 3 turns ; he will add more production quicker, and the mine on the wheat will increase this power.
If you're not sure I'm right, you can both download the save before my turns (1750bc), look at P'yongyang city screen, and do the math turn per turn for each tile assignment.
1- 1725bc : Seoul builds settler. Science at 100%.
Send settler 3 tiles east without escort, because barbs are sedentary, and our neighbours kind.
2- 1700bc : Wheat grassland is mined.
Keep both workers together to improve bonus grasslands near P'yongyang.
3- 1675bc : Science at 90% : -1 gpt.
P'yongyang has 3 citizens, I let the new one work on the dye to get a new settler as soon as possible (3 turns instead of 4 if he works on the 2nd bonus grassland).
4- 1650bc : Wonsan founded on the coast, by the river. It's not a very good site, but we'll get ivory as the city expands. Well... We can get it when Seoul expands (6 turns), but we will WORK them in Wonsan (+2 gold per ivory tile).
Science at 70% : +2 gpt. We have an empty treasury ! I did this because, being in Regent, we may do a lot of research by ourselves, particularly Polytheism and Monarchy. So we need as many beakers as possible, and don't mind for the gold, we will be rich one day, I'll promise ! (if the AI keeps up with OUR tech pace, though)
5- 1625bc : At last our warrior starts discovering land in the south !
Seoul is pop 3.
6- 1600bc : P'yongyang builds a settler. Start a worker.
Mine completed.
Micromanaging in Seoul (not that important) : settler is due in 1 turn, if I pick up a citizen from the mined bonus grassland and place him on an irrigated (non-improvement under despotism) grassland by the river, we still get the settler in 1 turn, but we gain 1 gold this turn (river).
It's interesting to have a look at your cities' screens and at F1 every turn in the Ancient Times, when you don't have many cities. These are good habits, IMO.
By doing so, I can slide science up to 90% : Polytheism due in 3 turns, -1 gpt, we have 4 gold in treasury.
7- 1575bc : Seoul builds a settler (pop 1). Science at 80% : Polytheism due in 3 turns, -1 gpt, 3 gold in treasury.
Well, it seems that Mongols and Americans are at war with each other, since this Mongol city (Ta-Tu ?) has turquoise borders now !
8- 1550bc : Pusan founded on the coast, near horses. Not a good location too, we need to find better sites !
We find dark green borders near Mongols and Americans.
9- 1525bc : Warrior in Wonsan. Send him exploring the south part (and not the south park !).
Science at 70% : +1 gpt. Because we get Polytheism in 1 turn, we slide science down to the minimum required for 1 turn, to get extra gold. Repeat this for each tech !
10- Polytheism discovered. Enough talked of this one !! So we're heading for Monarchy, but at 10% (+8 gpt), because it is still due in 40 turns (max number of turns) at 100%. I know our cities may grow and then I should do as I did in my first session. But, because Monarchy costs a lot for us now (as we're directly heading for a late ancient tech), and because we want to build more settlers (thus not bringing many more beakers with our population going up and down), I think it is wise to do a 40-turn research.
Namp'o founded on a hill. Again the site is not excellent.
Seoul pop 2.
Sell Abe Polytheism for Iron Working, Horseback Riding and 29 gold (all his treasury). I could not sell Temudjin Mysticism for more than 23 gold, so I didn't.
Cool, we have iron near P'yongyang !
Find out who's the 3rd guy !!
Well, Orbit, it is your turn. If you want to talk about the game before you start, tell us. Both of you, if you don't understand all that I said (hard to read), but if you want to learn, then you may want to download the 1750bc save (before I played), and repeat my sequence to see with your eyes what exactly I meant here and there. Orbit, you should play your turns first (to be sure to continue MY session) and then you may want to repeat my 10-turn session from 1750bc to 1500bc.
Good luck !
