Most useful government

I generally use democracy or facism, but what governments do you perfer? Also which should i start with, Monarchy or the Republic?

Republic, and stay with it because the anarchy time late is too long.

I usually go for a civ with a religious trait ... this gives only 1 turn of anarchy when governments are changes ...

I would therefore initially go for Monarchy
Then change to Republic for peace and Communism for war

Republic or Democracy as long as you provide enough luxuries, bigger cities, and less corruption. (However I rarely used them as I sometimes get into a fight with other AIs as they're the ones who started it. Longer wars suffer huge war weariness so I prefer revolt into Monarchy in middle part and Communism in late part of the game.)

-Republic for small to medium empires in almost all situations.
-Communism for big empires.
-Monarchy and Communism in always war games (no war weariness). Republic is good enough in heavy warmonger games with the option of peace once in a while to recover from heavy war weariness.
-Democracy ONLY with a religious civ. Otherwise it is not worth the anarchy period and the heavy war weariness with threat of a revolt. Just stick with Republic with a non-religious civ.

No you don't. You pay twice the upkeep, and corruption is a nuisance, as compared to minimal in Democracy.

Yes, I know there is unit support in Republic, but still not enough to offset the costs.

Possibly the best answer, though i would need to try feudalism for 100k.

Honestly, I have never had much luck with Republic, except when playing on the easier difficulty levels (probably a testiment to my playing ability more than anything else). I usually try to discover Monarchy first, and then just stick with it until I discovery Democracy.

I would ask if anyone has any hints on how to be successful with Republic on difficulty levels of monarch or higher (currently I play on Emperor), but this is not the tread or even the forum for that.
