We're oh so close to that wonderful time of year. It is time to gear up and prepare for the 2010 NFL Regular Season. What's it gonna be?

Version 1.4 (12 Sept 2010)
*added specific teams to Season Things #14 and noted that they will not win more than 5 games a peace. 18 Aug 2010
*changed winner of NFC Divisional Round from Eagles to Packers. 11 Sept 2010
*Rectified clerical error with Philadelphia still making the NFC Championship Game in place of Green Bay after yesterday's alteration. 12 Sept 2010
*Note: Record prediction tolerance +/- 1 game.
*By request, 'mediocre' is defined as a record between 8-8 and 10-6.
*By request, 'bottom of standings' defined as bottom 12 teams, or 21st thru 32nd place.

NFC

East: Philadelphia Eagles (2) 11-5 (CONFIRMED) Incredible comeback in New York. A win against Minnesota clinches it. +2
North: Green Bay Packers (3) 11-5 (NEAR BUSTED) Very doubtful.
South: New Orleans Saints (1) 13-3 (ONGOING) 10-4 and second place in the division. Big game next week.

West: San Francisco 49ers (4) 9-7 (BUSTED) 49ers 5-9.
WC1: Dallas Cowboys (5) 10-6 (BUSTED) Cowboys are now 5-9. A lot of respect for Jason Garrett. COMPLETE BUST -1
WC2: Minnesota Vikings (6) 9-7 (ONGOING) Nearly busted. 5-8. Bucket of yuck. COMPLETE BUST -1

Wild Card Round
Green Bay over Minnesota: ROFL, not happening
Dallas over San Francisco: ROFL, not happening

Divisional Round
New Orleans over Dallas: Over someone, for sure
Green Bay over Philadelphia: Philadelphia might play in this one, can't speak for GB

Championship Game
New Orleans over Green Bay: Replace GB with Philadelphia

AFC

East: New York Jets (3) 11-5 (ONGOING) Probably not.
North: Baltimore Ravens (2) 11-5 (ONGOING) On track.
South: Indianapolis Colts (1) 12-4 (ONGOING) Can't win even 11, but they will win the division. I think.
West: San Diego Chargers (4) 8-8 (ONGOING) On track. Chiefs leading division, though.
WC1: Miami Dolphins (5) 10-6 (ONGOING) Lost to the Bills. Season over. -1
WC2: Cincinnati Bengals (6) 10-6 (BUSTED) 3-11 record. Back to the toilet of the NFL standings. HUGE BUST -2

Wildcard Round
New York Jets over Cincinnati: Pittsburgh over the NYJ.
Miami over San Diego: Not Miami. Baltimore?

Divisional Round
New York Jets over Baltimore: New England over Baltimore.
Indianapolis over Miami: NYJ @ Indy, but I can't call this one. NYJ win, I guess.

Championship Game
Indianapolis over New York Jets: New England over the NYJ.

Superbowl XLV
Indianapolis over New Orleans: Close. NE over NO.

Season Things, 15 Points
(1) New England Patriots disintegrate into a mediocre (or worse) team. (BUSTED) The Patriots just got hammered by the Browns, but have otherwise played well. HUGE BUST -2
(2) Aaron Rodgers (Packers) has a break-out season. (BUSTED) So far, Rodgers is performing significantly worse than last year. PARTIAL BUST. -1 ... Two concussions stunted his growth. -1
(3) Kevin Kolb (Eagles) has a better-than-expected season. (BUSTED) Kolb was benched. Though he performed well at times, Vick was preferred due to a poor offensive line. COMPLETE BUST -1
(4) The winner of the Week 1 meeting of Green Bay at Philadelphia will be the number two seed. The loser will be number three. (NEARLY BUSTED) Barring a Philadelphia sweep @NYG, vMIN, and vDAL, and a miracle run by GB, not happening. -1
(5) San Francisco will win the NFC West or will lose quite a few close games. (ONGOING) 4 of 9 losses are of 3 pts or less. +2
(6) Pittsburgh will be disoriented throughout the year and unfocused. (BUSTED) Huge bust. -2
(7) Baltimore will look scary good, at times. (ONGOING) They are performing well, but not scary good. -1
(8) San Diego will only win the AFC West, because they can't all lose it. (ONGOING) San Diego is in second place, with Kansas City at the top with a respectable 8-5 record, for now.
(9) Washington will get off to a great start (6-2), but will flop in the second half of the season. (BUSTED) The flop came much sooner than expected. -1
(10) New York Jets will come incredibly close to fulfilling Rex Ryan's promise. (NEARLY BUSTED) , first-place in the AFC East. -1
(11) Terrell Owens will have a better season than last year. (CONFIRMED) +1
(12) New Orleans Saints will not slow down one iota. (ONGOING) New Orleans has lost to some teams that it has no business losing to, but overall they are getting it done now with Reggie Bush back on the field.
(13) New York Giants might supplant Dallas for the Wild Card spot. (CONFIRMED) The Giants would take a wild card spot if the playoffs started today. +2
(14) The usual suspects at the bottom of the standings will remain at the bottom of the standings (bottom 12 in standings), except for...no one...they all still suck.
(a) Cleveland Browns Eh? 5-9, 22nd place
(b) Kansas City Chiefs Buzz! 9-5, 9th place -2
(c) Oakland Raiders Buzz! 7-7, 17th place -1
(d) Detroit Lions Ding! 4-10, 29th place +2
(e) St. Louis Rams Meh. 6-8, 19th place -1
(f) Tampa Bay Buccaneers Buzz! 8-6, 15th place -1
(15) Minnesota will have a tough first few weeks until Brett Favre returns...again.(CONFIRMED) +1 Favre returned after the first pre-season game. +2

No way am I guessing the playoffs :p

5. Sam Bradford starts 14 games for St. Louis, they still only manage to win 3 games.
6. The Bears offense is in the top 10 for passing statistics of various sorts; they just miss out on playoffs after 9-7 season.
7. The Jets will be most disappointing team in the league after finishing 8-8; Revis does not play until Week 7.
8. Buffalo will get the number 1 overall draft pick, after winning only 2 games.
9. The Bengals will start with 5-1 run; Owens meltdown in tough game in Week 7 leads to unraveling, finish 8-8.
10. The Texans, once again, will just miss out on the playoffs, winning 9 games.
11. Vince Young will be replaced at starter by Week 12.

Laborgeddon

Settlement reached for 2011 season to start Sunday, October 2.

5. Sam Bradford starts 14 games for St. Louis, they still only manage to win 3 games.

Which would actually be a big improvement over the last two years. So I would actually be happy with this.... :(

NFC:
1) Cowboys - 13-3
2) Saints - 12-4
3) Packers - 11-5
4) 49ers - 10-6
5) Falcons - 10-6
6) Vikings - 10-6

Conference Championship: Cowboys over Saints

AFC:
1) Colts - 12-4
2) Dolphins - 11-5
3) Ravens - 10-6
4) Chargers - 9-7
5) Patriots - 10-6
6) Texans - 9-7

Conference Championships: Colts over Dolphins

Superbowl: Colts over Cowboys. Regardless of anything else, hard to take Romo over manning EVER.

General predictions:
1) Tebow does not get a start in denver (thankfully, a mediocre season as opposed to the horrific one that would lead to tebow getting a start)
2) Roethlisberger takes over right away from Leftwich (no QB controversy resulting from his mediocre play)
3) Parity in the AFC leads to a lot of teams around 8-8/9-7 (tiebreakers are HUGE the last few weeks)
4) AFC South remains football's strongest division, garrard and the jags pull it together but don't advance to the playoffs
5) Bengals receiving corps crashes and burns with too many mouths wanting to be fully fed
6) In contrast, the Ravens receiving corps does better than expected with the ravens relying more on the passing attack than the mediocre Ray Rice
7) The Browns and Bills surprise nobody. Except Chan Gailey. and whoever was responsible for hiring him
8) The Raiders become moderately less pathetic, but still don't have a running game to speak of.
9) Both Darrelle Revis and Nnamdi Asomugha recieve comeuppances as overrated CBs - good, but not "revis island" good.
10) The texans start off slow, but win 6 of their last 9 to make the playoffs through tiebreakers
11) Arizona gets off to a hot start with a relatively easy schedule the first few weeks, however starting week 12 the collapse begins, with the nail in the coffin coming in a week 17 loss to the 49ers, despite entering the game with matching 9-6 records.
12) The cowboys dominate the NFC east, sweeping all 6 games. The redskins, giants, and eagles split the rest, eliminating all 3 from playoff contention.
13) The Lions play well and finish ahead of the bears for 3rd in the division (still nowhere near playoffs)
14) Matt Moore flops completely.
15) So does Kolb.
16) Bradford gets hurt, but not before showing occasional flashes of brilliance.
17) CJ2K doesn't quite do it again, but still dominates.
18) The Saints remain universally loved.
19) The labour dispute is resolved before a lockout happens, saving football in Green Bay and Jacksonville (for now)
20) The Jaguars FINALLY get a home game broadcasted by selling out.

Hey, head to head Romo is 1-0 versus Manning.

For all of you predicting Green Bay, the Vikings are still going to win the NFC North because you know Favre is coming back.

And seriously, Baltimore is not going to with the AFC.

Green Bay is probably better than Minnesota, even with Favre.

And Baltimore has an explosive offense and a very, very good front 7. If they play decent at secondary, they are most definitely good enough to win the AFC.

The Vikings Supporting Cast around Favre is better than the Packer's supporting cast around Rodgers. Rice is a stud and so is Harvin. The other receivers aren't too shabby either. Minny's D is also better than Green Bay's.

I feel people are really overestimating the Ravens. I don't think they'll win if they meet Indy in the playoffs.

Rice is certainly not a stud; he is a product of a Quarterback playing out-of-his-mind. He is as good, if not below, Jennings. Harvin is very, very good. But, Favre had a great season last year, one with many, many less interceptions than usual. The Packers are just as good on offense with many of the same skills in weapons, plus a better offensive line. And the last statement is a funny joke, but that is about it.

And neither do I, but to say they cannot make it there is just silly. They are a top 4/5 team in the AFC, which can very well mean a Super Bowl appearance.

I think the Vikings championship window closed. Their offense isn't going to be nearly dynamic enough without Farve playing out of his mind...it will put too much pressure on Peterson. They have a very physical front line...but the NFC North also isn't exactly known for their running backs. Their secondary is whats going to have to play well.

(Damn the NFC is deep this year)

Dont ask me past that, cause I have no idea. No love for the Saints though??

How do you know Favre won't be playing out of his mind? It could be that he just had a good OL last year. He got time to throw passes. Everyone outside of the vikings said Favre was gonna fail last year too and he didn't.

Even in fantasy drafts, he didn't go in many until the 7th round or something.

Did you not see Saints v. Vikes? Where Favre was getting thrown around like a sac of potatoes? Guys just do not just brush that off.
