barracks
market
bank
stock exchange
super highways

Most cities get all of these at some point.Temples and the odd library.

1) Off shore platform

2) Stock exchange

3) City walls

4) Port facility

5) Costal fortress

Listen, strange women lying around in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system government.

off-shore platform
factory
manufacturing plant
super highway
supermarket

Temple
Marketplace
Bank
Aquaduct
Harbor

I'd like to learn to get by without temples, but i'm not there yet. With these, a couple happy wonders and few trade routes in each city, you can have We Love to Make Babies days all over the place.

DEATH awaits you all...with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

1. SuperHighways (just love that trade explosion)
2. MfgPlant (means its time for war)
3. Factory (crank out those improvements quicker)
4. SuperMarket
5. Stock Exchange

I usually bypass Temples by directing my research toward the shortest path to Monotheism -- what I call the Philosopher King's Opening. Then, with the Gardens and trade routes plus the Colussus, I can usually achieve WLTK growth up to size 8 cities without any other improvements.

temple
aqueduct
offshore
platform
sewer system

Colloseum
City Walls
SDI Defense
Aquaduct
Factory

Colloseum to maintain happiness in the city. City Walls to keep it safe. SDI Defense to Ensure safety from nukes. Aquaduct to let the city grow to a pretty good size. Factory to increase its production.

Temple
Library
Marketplace
University
Factory

I skip City Walls and Granaries because I go for Pyramids and the Great Wall instead, and by the time they're obsolete my cities should be big enough and my military strong enough to not need them...and of course i have to build aqueducts, but that's not one of my "favorites"

This is my first message, so I'll keep it simple. I've been spying on this site for several days and am so happy there are way too many people addicted to this game series.

Back to the subject, most important are:

Barracks
Factory
granary
marketplace
and manufacturing plant.

i must say this highly depends on the type of city i build. i basically have 3 kinds of cities:

The trade city
The production city
The support city

Trade city
Build on a trade special or very close to ocean, with lots of ocean squares. In this city i build:
-temple
-harbour
-library
-marketplace
-courthouse
-aquaduct

Production city
-barracks
-temple

The support city
-nothing, it stays 1 big with entertainer to support units outside cities.

1. temple
2. marketplace
3. library
4. city walls
5. factory
acqueducts are necessary too, but factories are more fun
