Affinity based research for military upgrades deters foreign aggression

I've been playing Apollo games and finally got a knack for upgrading my military units as a priority to get any other victory condition off the ground.

I haven't worked up to Apollo yet, but yes, the affinity buffs are great assets. Getting the armor units to level 4 makes them super mobile, and able to deter the AI while you're bringing earth colonists, protecting the beacon or mind flower, or building lots of units to push through the gate.
