Arda Mod

Sounds like this could be a cool mod.

So is the map going to change between the first and second age? I wouldn't want to be on the west coast of middle earth when it goes underwater.

Also, are there going to be locked aliances, or maybe 'always war' between any of the civs?

how about a 'rings of power' tech that reveals a ring resource that give you different bonuses/penalties depending on what civ you are?

Hmmmmm, interesting idea, but I have a feeling its impossible that the landmass can change when an age ends. One prob I see with it is that the First Age will end once u get to the end of the tech tree, and others will end it earlier/later than others. Also it doesn't seem very fair for the factions that start out in the West and all their cities sink while civs that start in Middle Earth won't lose anything, don't you agree?

I want to stay away from that, but maybe having some civilizations like a certain other because it is Good or Evil is up for question ;)

Well, there wasn't that many Rings of Power, plus I plan having Rings of Power as Small Wonders that anyone can build once for their civilization. Also hoping for the "Alpha Centurai" to be the construction of the One Ring

This looks like a lot of work but could turn out to be a really fantastic mod. About when do you think you'll be finished?

That is not true here is the qoute..

It has been said that more rings were made but they are of a lesser nature than the Great Rings of Power. Gandalf suggests as much when he explains the history of the Rings of Power to Frodo:

"In Eregion long ago many Elven-rings were made, magic rings as you call them, and they were, of course, of various kinds: some more potent and some less. The lesser rings were only essays in the craft before it was full-grown, and to the Elven-smiths they were but trifles - yet to my mind dangerous for mortals. But the Great Rings, the Rings of Power, they were perilous." [FR]

Another allusion to more rings is made when Sauron invaded Eregion to reclaim by force all the rings he had sought to rule by the forging and wearing of the One:

"There Sauron took the Nine Rings and the lesser works of the Mírdain; but the Seven and the Three he could not find." [UT]

We are not told how many of these lesser rings were made, nor of the nature of their power. Their use is nowhere recorded in the history of Middle-earth.

It is also possible that Saruman himself created a minor ring as is suggested in the Fellowship of the Ring during the Council of Elrond where Gandalf is recounting his capture in Isengard:

"But I rode up to the foot of Orthanc, and came to the stair of Saruman...He wore a ring on his finger." In the same section Saruman declares "For I am Saruman, the Wise, Saruman the Ring-maker, Saruman of Many Colours." [FR]

We are told in several places that the study of the lore of the Rings of Power was Saruman's province. It is quite possible and plausible that Saruman created his own ring of power and used this ring to control and dominate his army of orcs, wargs, and half-breeds. After all he was a Maia (of Aulë, the smith) and possessed great power.

@NaU- you're probably right about my first 2 questions- although maybe you could apply 'good' and 'evil' to barbs to make them more likely to attack or not?

with the rings of power, i guess the question for game implementation is whether rings are something one or more civs can build, or whether they appear as 'already dispersed' such that each civ gets one, or at least has a chance of finding them. I kind of pictured it as the Manhattan Project (at least in civ 3) where if one civ builds it, all other civs have access...

but you don't really need to listen to me. I probably won't be playing until the mac version comes out this summer, because Civ4 doesn't run very well on my pc laptop. :(

Regardless of whether you can play or not, your input is still valid. While NaU and Morboth are the 2 masterminds of this project, they are human and their knowledge of Tolkien isn't complete. They can make mistakes or leave things out.

We encourage all ideas that people may have to offer. Whether or not they will be implemented is another thing, but your posts are appreciated :)

Sorry all, but I'm kinda busy with another project, and thuslly I can't really work on the Arda Mod for awhile. While I'm gone, Morboth is the main man in charge of this mod.

I hope you and Shqype can get as much done as you can while I'm busy for awhile ;)

As you wish, when you are finished with that other project(AO isn't it??;) :king: ) make sure you tell me ;)

has anyone thought of what wonders could be presented in this mod? as well as the rings of power i suggest the 3 (i believe) simarills,as well as various geographical areas could be considered wonders (for example thangorodrim as a national wonder for morgoth or even a world wonder..) wonders such as minas tirith (gondolin), the white tree of gondor, "eye of sauron", cirith ungol, and a bunch i cant think of right now but theres some possibilities....

also, consider adding valar as a possible civilization, particularly them being more stronger but harder to train.

i have a handy tolkien encycliopeda on hand so if one needs any infomation ill be glad to give it

As i said, new ideas are welcome, and let me tell you Vietnamese Guy, that i LOVED those ideas ;) , i'll ask NaU if he likes'em cuz, just the rings would be a small number of the wonders of Arda :) , i'm really thankful :goodjob:

Vietnamese Guy, perhaps you would be able to join our development team? You seem to know alot about this stuff, and that Tolkien encyclopedia will be very useful for us!

Indeed, sounds like a good idea, if you are interested PM me or Shqype(since NaU is currently working on another thing) or just post here :) ;)

Can you post a map on the User Created Maps forum. I would like to have an idea of what the civs get geographicly. For example exagerating the pelanor feilds so that there is more of a chance for some epic battles would be a good idea. Also, try creating a peak like terrain for Minas Tirath to be built upon.

Well, so far we haven't got Skins or maps, or anything to show for we have come across several personal problems, i for example will be on Holidays the next week and won't be able to use a computer, and NaU is currently working in both this project and another one.

Good News: Me, Shqype, and Morboth will be getting back to work on this fabulous mod. We'll be trying to finish up:

- City Names
- Leader Images

And then start:

- Faction Flags

Hopefully we'll have some screenies up once we get those done of our progress :goodjob:

sweet mod and all that junk, but an idea for a wonder could be those 2 huge statues of kings in FOTR. I dont know what theyre called

We have a new Arda Mod Team Member: Honom, our concept artist! :D

Honom's first piece for this mod is the Noldorian Warrior/Spearman (which will be two different units, and with differences only in their weapons and bonuses they give):
