Beyond the Sword issues with Win 7?

I am using windows 7, and the Civ 4 plus warlords runs fine. I actually run them in windows so I can multitask and enjoy myself over time(long game anyways) But Beyond the Sword wont run in a window right because it says it has issues with my color rendering or something, changes my desktop theme, and then plays but will have messed up graphics for a minute till it stabilizes. WTF lol?

The first two work great, this one is...confusing. Any one else had any experience with this?

Civ 4 BTS takes so much time for me because i play it a lot. So to avoid not seeing any msgs from msn or other stuff in the background, I play it in a window sometimes. I had the same problem -well not exactly- but i couldnt play it in a window. Until I solved the problem like this:
Right-click on your Civ4 BTS shortcut, under Compability tab it says "disable graphics themes" or visual themes or display themes something like that. Sorry my computer is not English. Just tick the box and it should be ok.

I had to re-install Windows completely from a 'clean slate'. My "C" drive (with Windows XP Professional on it) crashed/died. My Windows disk (XP) that came with my computer would not install, so I had to buy the full Professional version of Windows 7. I have the Civilization IV (The Comlete Edition) DVD that has Civ IV, Civ IV Warlords, Beyond the Sword and Colonization on it.

The game will not install because of some bad Cab2 file on the DVD. I've checked the DVD with a program that verifies media functionality and it checks good. Will this game load on Windows 7?

I have Civ V, but it also no longer works, thanks to STEAM!!!!!!!!!

I cannot re-install it because it is already registered through STEAM (by me, as I am the one that bought it) on teh STEAM account I had to create when I first installed the game before my computer crashed. AS the Windows (newly installed) does not have Civ V in it's registery of installed programs, it will not either run or uninstall. I cannot clear it out fo the STEAM account and those folks are useless at helping. They have NO phone help, only useless email.

If you haven't bought Civ V, DON'T!!!!! Not until they remove the STEAM registration requirement. 2K games used to provide great support, now they do nothing to help you. It is now all through STEAM and they have NO interest in helping you at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just started having the same problem 2 days ago running Win7 ultimate and the game closes after a minute, with the popup that windows will look for a fix. i did try to check the 'disable visual theme' box under compatibility/settings. i am running compatibilty XP SP3 and have check run as administrator. when this happened i notice that the game was taking up the full screen- i have a 19" monitor and i have black strip about 1" on each side of the screen now- is there a setting I missed that will fix both?

How did you get 32-bit Window 7? It may not be an issue with CivIV, but if Windows 7 is 64 bit, then shouldn't you run it as 64?

just to update the crashing stopped last night and now i just have the game screen going black and then the game image coming back up, most likely my GPU card is failing. i tried to see if this happened with Vanilla- but i get the wrong disc error, ( even with civ4 complete in dvd drive) and i cant get Rome total War to load at all. any sggestions?

Switching from 32 bit to 64 bit might require a clean install of the operating system. I may be wrong on this but that is what I understand.

But before you do that, how did you stop the crashing? You said it stopped.

There may be many reasons why "wrong disc" errors occur, but from personal experience, such an error would occur only if the PC did not meet the requirements of the program being installed. Clearly you have ample memory, current OS and ok gpu given this game's requirements, so having said that, I suggest you try to rule out somethings (e.g., sound cards, graphics card, miscellaneous peripherals) in order to get to the solution.

I would start by getting your OS to 64 bit. The OS controls everything so if that is not properly configured, chances are other the things controlled by it won't work properly.

However, before you reinstall the OS, remove the sound card and other fancy hardware stuff that might be installed. Naturally, you want the video card in so have that in there.

Once you have reinstalled the operating system, then install the updated driver for that same video card you currently have. You said you think your graphics card might be failing, so this is one way of making sure that is not the case. If you have another video card handy, I suggest that you do not use it just yet. Test the one you currently have, then once you've determined that it indeed does not work, then switch them. It is also important that you have directx updated. Now after all that, then install Civ IV Complete. After it is installed, run the program but if for some reason you cannot run the program, you may need to run the directx updater from microsoft. If you can launch the game, make sure you install the 3.19 patch first thing. Again, if you have other hardware like external hard-drives or other peripherals which require a driver, hold off on them until after you get Civ IV running. Then once the game is running, reinstall other hardware one by one. After one thing is installed, run the game again and see if it works. Repeat this game check until each hardware is reinstalled.

So far this is a lot of work for you. Repost to update us.

don't know what i did to stop the crashing, the game played fine until the i got the GPU issues- screen freezing then dropping out it will come back once then freezes up and i had to end program through task manager. i did the reinstall because the the vanilla wasnt running and it did before- have tried the fixes for the wrong disk issue and was able to run the game with civ complete disc in drive (BTS runs w/o disc in the drive? i found out but i usually keep the disc in the drive anyway. Iwill try to do a install of OS and see if it has 64 bit option then post results

If you get the wrong disc message with 3.19 then the patch has not installed. With W7 you need to patch the game by downloading the patch outside the game (don't use the ingame updater), then right clicking on the patch and choosing run as administrator.

When you download the patch, the patch gets sent to "Documents" of your computer. You need to find that file and open it to begin the patching process.

Now you cannot install either BtS or Civ IV basic?

What error message do you get now? There should be a 'code'. Post the error message for us to see.
