Which unit, in which Period(Early, High, ext) do you think is the single most useful to bribe?

Try not to argue too much in here.. we all fight differently, with different strengths, so were not going to end up agreeing. :)

My vote goes to the Vikings in the Early era. 240 massively powerful infantry units conviently right next to a single-province faction. :goodjob:

Early; invade Khazar with one unit, and then call off the assault, this pulls the units out of the castle. Then bribe the fifty billion mounted units there: you get a arse-load of steppe cavalry and the only occurence of Khazar Royal Cavalry which rock hard and you can only get them again with a rebellion in Khazar early age.

Early - Welsh Longbowmen

As for mercs you should look for early,

1) Druzhina cavalry - 60 men, and they dismount into Feudal Foot Knights anywhere. Extremely powerful.

2) Mounted crossbowmen - If you have to kill a Byzantine royal, these do as well as anything.

oh yea, for mercs definietly grab the Druzinas, they rock hard, cause they have axes and you get 60 of 'em; they're a tad expesinve to maintain. Kwarazimians go in the same boat. If you get the chance ( and these are rare) grab some Almuguvars, the Aragonese unique unit, they are good spearmen/javelineers/swordsmen, and they really only come along in Aragonese loyalty rebellions

The Druzhinas aren't really special as cavalry. The best thing about them is that they dismount into FFKs, easily the best swordsmen in early era, and unlike feudal knights they can do this anytime.

Think FMAA with almost double the attack and 4 times the morale.

FMAA = Feudal Men at Arms

They (Feudal Foot Knights) have better attack and (if I understand it correctly) better defense than Swabians, and they have double the morale.

Yes, the axes help against armored units, but stats-wise they're nothing special. About on the level of hobilars with less charge and armor piercing capability.

EDIT: Swabians are armor piercing, that may put them above Feudal Foot Knights. But still, FFKs are very special.
