Civ 5 - all mods not working

Hi, I'm running Civ 5 that I downloaded from Steam and none of the mods are working for me. Any mod I install causes what I'm calling the "character actions" menu to not appear in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Sometimes, the [>>>] button appears, but licking it just causes it to turn to the [<<<] button with no other options being presented. Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix it?

It's because these mods haven't been updated for the most recent patch. You'll have to check out the Modpacks forum and find the thread of the mods you want to check if they've been updated yet.
